Job summary

Optimize Recruitment is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant for a Cork City office-based, full-time permanent role. The successful candidate will join a collaborative finance team, manage monthly management accounts, and ensure statutory compliance and accurate financial reporting across Sage and EP2 systems.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience in a Financial Accountant or similar finance role.
  • Part-qualified or recently qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • Experience with VAT returns, RCT, and management accounts preparation would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and ensure timely reporting.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and maintain GL integrity.
  • Manage Revenue returns including VAT, PAYE/PRSI, RCT and corporation tax support schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.

Financial Accountant Cork City Office-Based Full-Time Permanent

Our client is a leading residential property developer with a strong track record of delivering high-quality housing developments across the Munster region. Due to continued expansion and a growing project portfolio, they are seeking to appoint an experienced Financial Accountant to join their established finance team in Cork City. This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive organisation involved in some of the region's most significant residential developments. The successful candidate will become part of a collaborative finance team of 5 and play a key role in ensuring the accurate financial management and reporting of the business.

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of monthly management accounts, statutory compliance, taxation returns, and supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation. The successful candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment. The company currently operates Sage and EP2 systems, and experience with similar accounting and construction-related finance systems would be advantageous.

Candidate requirements
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience in a Financial Accountant or similar finance role.
  • Small/medium practise experience with the ability to prepare vat returns, RCT returns and prepare accounts to management accounts level ideally.
  • Part-qualified accountant / recently qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Experience preparing management accounts and month-end reporting packs would be advantageous.
  • Experience dealing with Revenue compliance and taxation returns.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish accounting standards and financial regulations.
  • Experience working with Sage and/or EP2 would be a distinct advantage.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict reporting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Key responsibilities
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrity.
  • Manage and submit Revenue returns including: VAT returns PAYE/PRSI returns Relevant Contract Tax (RCT) returns Corporation tax support schedules Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Monitor cash flow and support treasury management activities.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
  • Support project costing and financial reporting across multiple residential developments.
  • Produce financial reports and analysis to support senior management decision-making.
  • Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of financial controls and processes.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records across Sage and EP2 systems.
  • Provide financial and commercial support to operational and project teams as required.
