Job summary

Malone O'Regan Environmental is seeking an Experienced Ecologist to join our Cork team. The role combines field and desk-based work on diverse projects across multiple sectors and requires 3–5 years postgrad experience and appropriate ecology qualifications.

You will conduct ecological surveys, analyze data with QGIS, and contribute to technical reports such as AA, EcIA and EIAR Biodiversity chapters. Hybrid working is offered.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of postgraduate experience.
  • Suitable qualification in ecology or a related discipline.
  • Proven report-writing experience (AA, EcIA, EIAR Biodiversity Chapters).
  • Irish wildlife knowledge and conservation legislation understanding.
  • Full clean driver’s licence and eligibility to work in Ireland.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, conduct and oversee ecological surveys including habitat and species surveys.
  • Data analysis and presentation using QGIS.
  • Client and subcontractor communication and project meetings.
  • Prepare and peer-review reports (AA, EcIA, EIAR biodiversity chapters).
  • Mentor junior team members and manage projects.
  • Prepare proposals.

Job - Experienced Ecologist – Cork

We are looking for experienced / senior ecologists to join our team in the Cork office.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of ecological projects and to collaborate with other environmental science disciplines. This role offers a mix of field and desk-based work on highly innovative projects for our clients across a range of industry sectors.

This role is suited to candidates with a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience.

This full-time position offers hybrid working and will require working outside normal working hours (for survey work) and travel, sometimes overnighting, around Ireland.

The successful candidate will contribute to a range of impactful projects across multiple industries, helping clients meet environmental obligations while promoting sustainable practices.

Main Responsibilities
  • Planning, conducting and overseeing ecological surveys, including (but not limited to) habitat surveys and protected and notable species surveys.

  • Field data analysis, interpretation and presentation, using QGIS.

  • Communication with clients and subcontractors, attending project meetings.

  • Preparation and peer review of reports, including Appropriate Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR) chapters, species-specific reports and other environmental reports.

  • Mentoring and coaching junior team members.

  • Project management.

  • Preparing Proposals.

About You
  • Three to five years of postgraduate experience.

  • Suitable qualification in ecology, earth science, environmental science, zoology or a similar discipline.

  • Proven experience in technical report writing, such as AAs, NISs, EcIAs and Biodiversity Chapters of EIARs.

  • Experience in ecological surveying, including habitat evaluations and protected / notable species surveys.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Irish wildlife and conservation legislation.

  • Strong technical report writing.

  • Strong time-management, organisational and project management skills.

  • Willing to work within own team to achieve common objectives and support other teams where needed.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

  • Full clean driver's licence.

  • Eligible to work in Ireland.

Desired Experience and Qualifications
  • MSc.

  • Experience within an environmental consultancy firm

  • Member of CIEEM.
