Job summary

Positions may arise in Roads, Transportation & Area Services, Capital Delivery, Asset Management & Land Development, Planning & Environment and Housing.

Executive Engineers are appointed to a wide variety of roles across the Council with responsibilities for delivering capital projects, managing services and supervising

Qualifications

• Applicants must be suitably qualified for senior engineering panel roles.
• Experience delivering capital projects is preferred.
• Ability to coordinate across multiple departments and external consultants.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering/ancillary services and manage work programmes.
• Oversee design/delivery of infrastructural projects and procurement of consultants/contractors.
• Manage staff performance and development and monitor budgets for capital works.
• Maintain a strong health and safety culture and compliance with legislation.
• Liaise with elected members, community groups, and other authorities; prepare reports.

Cork County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons, who wish to beconsidered for inclusion on a panel from which vacancies for Executive Engineer may befilled. Positions may arise in any of the Council’s functional areas, which may include butnot limited to Roads, Transportation & Area Services, Capital Delivery, AssetManagement & Land Development, Planning & Environment and Housing.

Executive Engineers are appointed to a wide variety of roles across the Council. The rolecan include responsibility for the successful delivery of a range of major and minorcapital projects; responsibility for the management and effective delivery of a range ofservices, and responsibility for the management and supervision of assigned staff. The person/s appointed will work under the direction and control of the Senior Engineer/Senior Executive Engineer or other Officer designated by the Director of Services or theChief Executive.

DUTIES:

• Supervise, control and carry out engineering/ancillary services to include thepreparation and management of work programmes.
• Identify infrastructural needs and oversee the design and delivery of infrastructuralprojects including the procurement and management of consultants and contractorsusing current best practice project management, contract management and financialmanagement procedures.
• Manage staff performance and development.
• Manage budgets as effectively and efficiently as possible, in respect of capital worksand service delivery.
• Maintaining and proactively developing a culture of Health and Safety in theworkplace.
• Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and regulations, and CorkCounty Council’s Safety Management Systems.
• Ensuring works are implemented in compliance with all relevant legislation andregulations including planning, construction, energy and procurement requirements.
• Deal with representations from elected members and community organisations.
• Represent the County Council at meetings with elected members, community/general interest groups, businesses and residents.
• Prepare reports for meetings, as required.
• Liaise with other local authorities, Government Departments and statutory agencies.
• Work with senior management in devising and implementing strategies leading to improved efficiencies in delivery of services.
