Job summary

Sodexo is recruiting a Maintenance Operative to support school sites across West Cork, primarily based in Bantry. This on-site role focuses on evening hours to maintain safety and smooth operation of facilities.

You’ll be the onsite contact during evenings, supervise events, perform light maintenance and respond to emergencies. Fire Warden/First Aid certs (or willingness to train) are desirable. Some shifts may be available across West Cork and Cork City.

Qualifications

• Evening and weekend availability during school term time.
• Practical DIY or maintenance skills.
• Ability to work independently and respond calmly in emergencies.
• Fire Warden and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete training).
• Previous experience as a caretaker, handy person, facilities assistant or fire warden encouraged but not required.

Responsibilities

• Be the onsite point of contact during evening hours (typically 6:30pm–8:30pm on weekdays).
• Provide site supervision during sports events and occasional weekend tournaments.
• First Aid assistance in the event of an emergency.
• Support safe operation of the building, including HVAC training.
• Carry out light maintenance and DIY tasks as required.
• Ensure premises remain secure, safe and well maintained.
• Report incidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
• Potential to pick up additional shifts across other West Cork schools and Cork City settings.

Hours: Monday - Friday 6.30pm - 10.30pm and optional weekends

Pay: €15.59 per hour

Maintenance Operative

We are currently recruiting a reliable and proactive

Maintenance Operativeto support school sites across West Cork, primarily based in Bantry. This is a key onsite role during evening hours, ensuring the safety, security and smooth running of school facilities, particularly during sports events and activities.

This role is ideal for a responsible, flexible individual with good practical/DIY skills who enjoys working independently and being a trusted presence onsite.

What you’ll do

Be the onsite point of contact during evening hours (typically 6:30pm–8:30pm on weekdays)

Provide site supervision during sports events and occasional weekend tournaments (including potential 12-hour shifts on Saturdays or Sundays)

Act as a

First Aid assistance in the event of an emergency

Support the safe operation of the building, including training in HVAC systems

Carry out light maintenance and DIY tasks as required

Ensure the premises remain secure, safe and well maintained

Report any incidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly

There may also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts across other West Cork schools (particularly if you have access to a car) and potentially in university settings in Cork City.

What you’ll bring
