Job description

This position is designated as a Controlled Function under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity Regime.

Interactive Brokers is seeking a European Sanctions Lead to serve as an experienced manager within the firm’s Global Sanctions Team, overseeing the European Sanctions function to ensure compliance with UK, EU, US, and other applicable sanctions laws. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Sanctions professional to grow and develop in a market leading firm, gaining global exposure and management responsibility, leading a small pan‑European team within the Global Sanctions Team.

The role is based in our London or Dublin office and will report to the Global Head of Sanctions.

We are looking for candidates that want to work in a dynamic and expanding Compliance Department. The successful candidate will join IBKR at a time when the Group is supporting the development of synergies and coordination across its European operating entities. IBKR is a stimulating environment characterised by a wide and varied global client base — from individuals to complex institutions — and a broad product offering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, review, and interpret any new UK or EU sanction regimes, changes thereof, and relevant regulatory developments. Assess business and risk impacts and define required changes to systems and controls for the firm to remain compliant and able to satisfactorily manage sanctions risks.
  • Serve as the European subject matter expert on sanctions matters, advising Business and other Compliance Units in relation to complex Sanctions issues, including those related to client sanctions exposure, new products, and new sanctions regulations.
  • Coordinate efforts across Europe for the performance of relevant controls and contribute to the definition and maintenance of global, enterprise‑wide sanctions processes, working closely with colleagues globally.
  • File regulatory reports (such as frozen assets reports) with UK, EU and Dubai authorities as needed.
  • Conduct or support reviews and investigations into specific sanctions‑related cases.
  • Provide input into the firm’s Compliance Testing and Monitoring Programme, contributing to the design of new, or changes to existing, second‑line‑of‑defence controls, as well as to the definition of testing and monitoring methodologies.
  • Assist in the annual Sanctions Risk Assessment process, including the identification of inherent risks, the inventorying and assessment of relevant controls, and the definition of residual risks.
  • Identify, set, and calibrate KPIs and KRIs and independently prepare detailed European management reporting (including Board committee updates) to help measure adherence to the Financial Crime Risk Appetite. Produce and report management information, for various audiences, on the specific performance of various controls.
  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance and updates of sanctions policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
  • In‑depth knowledge of UK, EU, and preferably US sanctions regulations.
  • Demonstrable ability to interpret and apply complex regulations to a complex operating environment, covering client onboarding, execution and clearing/custody arrangements, and cashiering activity.
  • Experience working as a sanctions subject matter expert in financial services, preferably with a good working knowledge of securities and capital markets.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to manipulate data, produce MI, and write reports.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong stakeholder management abilities, both internally and externally (e.g., counterparties and regulators).
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast‑paced, medium‑size office environment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) is strongly preferred.
