Job summary

UCD Charles Institute of Dermatology, School of Medicine, University College Dublin, invites applications for a fully ERC-funded 4-year PhD position within the DESIGN-ECM project. You will work on species- and sex-specific biomaterials for next-gen preclinical models under Dr. Seungkuk Ahn.

The successful candidate will engineer 3D ECM scaffolds, validate with mammalian cells, and develop 3D ovarian organoid models, contributing to mechanobiology and tissue engineering advances.

Qualifications

• The position is open to candidates with a 1st class or a 2:1 honours first degree and a Master's in Biomaterials, Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering, Cell Biology, or related disciplines.
• Experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, extracellular matrix, protein and gene analysis, immunohistochemistry, 3D tissue models or organoids is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, organisational skills and ability to work independently and in a team are essential.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and characterise 3D ECM scaffolds.
• Perform in vitro cell validations.
• Develop 3D ovarian organoid models.
