Job description

Experienced Mixed Veterinary Surgeon – 50% Equine / 50% Small Animal
Cork, Ireland | €55,000–€75,000 + Rent-Free Accommodation + Car

Looking for a genuine mixed role where you can continue working with both horses and small animals — without having to choose between the two?

The Vet Office is recruiting an Experienced Veterinary Surgeon for a well-established and respected independent mixed practice in County Cork, Ireland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a vet who already has solid clinical experience and is looking for a long-term position with a varied caseload, professional autonomy and an attractive package.

The Opportunity

The caseload offers a genuine balance of approximately:

50% Equine
50% Small Animal

You will work alongside an experienced veterinary team, managing your own cases while having the support and facilities required for more challenging clinical work.

Depending on your experience and interests, the position can involve:

  • Small animal consultations and medical work-ups
  • Small animal surgery
  • Equine ambulatory work
  • Equine medicine and diagnostics
  • Routine and more complex equine cases
  • Emergency and out-of-hours cases
  • Opportunity to develop particular clinical interests

We are particularly interested in speaking with vets who are confident clinically and comfortable taking responsibility for their own cases, while still enjoying working as part of a collaborative team.

Working Pattern

The practice offers a shared and manageable rota:

  • 1 in 4 general rota
  • 1 evening OOH per week
  • 1 in 4 Saturday mornings
Package

Salary: €55,000–€75,000 per year, depending on experience

Rent-free accommodation available
A private apartment can be provided, significantly reducing your living costs.

For work and reasonable personal use.

You will also benefit from:

  • Supportive and experienced colleagues
  • Genuine mixed SA/equine caseload
  • Opportunity for clinical progression
  • Long-term career potential
  • Excellent quality of life in County Cork
  • Easy access to Cork City and the Irish countryside
Who Are We Looking For?

This vacancy is particularly suited to an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with an interest or background in mixed and/or equine practice.

You should:

  • Be VCI registered or eligible for VCI registration
  • Have previous veterinary clinical experience
  • Be comfortable with both small animal and equine work
  • Have good communication and client-management skills
  • Be confident working independently when required
  • Enjoy being part of a close, collaborative veterinary team
  • Ideally hold a full driving licence

Experience in equine practice, mixed practice, surgery, emergency work or independent practice would be particularly valuable.

Why Consider This Role?

For the right vet, the overall package is particularly attractive: up to €75,000 salary + rent-free accommodation + company car, while maintaining a genuine 50/50 equine and small animal caseload.

If you're an experienced vet considering a move to Ireland — or you're already based in Ireland and looking for a strong mixed-practice opportunity — we'd be delighted to speak with you confidentially.
