IAIRO is seeking an Engineering Intern with strong software engineering fundamentals and a practical understanding of AI systems. You will contribute across backend, frontend and AI components, building end-to-end solutions.

You will join a small engineering team to prototype features, improve internal tools and help develop AI-enabled products while learning modern development workflows and best practices.

We are looking for an Engineering Intern with strong fundamentals in software engineering and a good understanding of modern AI systems. The role is suited for someone who enjoys building things end-to-end, understands how AI models work at a practical level, and is comfortable working across backend, frontend and AI components.

• Extreme Weather/ Satellite Data/ Remote Sensing
• Pharmacology

What You'll Work On

You Will Work With The Engineering Team On Building And Improving AI-enabled Products And Internal Systems. Depending On The Project, This May Involve

• Building backend services, APIs and data pipelines
• Developing and improving web applications and user interfaces
• Integrating language models and other AI models into applications
• Working with model inference, prompts, structured outputs and model APIs
• Processing and transforming data for AI and software applications
• Prototyping new product features and technical ideas
• Testing, debugging and improving system performance
• Working across the full development lifecycle, from prototype to deployment

What We're Looking For

Strong engineering fundamentals are more important than familiarity with any particular framework.

You Should Have

• Strong proficiency in Python
• Good understanding of basic data structures, algorithms and software engineering concepts
• Experience building software or applications beyond coursework
• Experience with full-stack development
• Familiarity with APIs, databases, Git and modern development workflows
• Basic understanding of machine learning and AI
• Understanding of how machine learning models broadly work, including training, inference, inputs, outputs and evaluation
• Understanding of language models, including concepts such as tokens, context windows, embeddings, prompting and inference
• Ability to read documentation, understand unfamiliar systems and learn new technologies quickly
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills'
• PyTorch or similar ML frameworks Hugging

Good to Have

Experience with any of the following is useful, but not required:

• Hugging Face and open-source language models
• RAG, vector databases or embeddings
• Model fine-tuning or evaluation
• React, Next.js or similar frontend frameworks
• FastAPI, Flask, Django, Node.js or similar backend frameworks
• database design
• Docker and cloud deployment
• Building or deploying AI-powered applications
