Job summary

Amazon Ireland is seeking a Software Development Engineer - Embedded Development (Linux) to design, develop, and optimise virtualization components for serverless and container workloads. You will contribute to Firecracker and related hypervisor tech, and help build virtualization infrastructure powering AWS services in a large distributed environment.

You should be pursuing a Bachelor's in CS/CE/DS, with Linux/C/C++ experience, and be on track to graduate around Aug-Nov 2026 or recently

Qualifications

Bachelor's or higher in CS/CE/DS or related STEM fields.
Experience with Linux, C/C++, kernel, and device drivers.
Graduation between Aug 2026 and Nov 2026 or within the last 24 months.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimise VMMs for serverless and container workloads.
Contribute to Firecracker and related open-source hypervisor technologies.
Build and maintain virtualization infrastructure powering AWS Lambda, Aurora, and other AWS services.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-disciplinary Amazonians to design, build, and operate innovative products and services.
Design and develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices in a large distributed computing environment.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation.
Build and maintain resilient distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective.
Leverage and contribute to GenAI and AI-powered tools to enhance development productivity while staying current with emerging technologies.
Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and design patterns.
Work in an agile environment practicing CI/CD principles while participating in operational responsibilities including on-call duties.
Demonstrate operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.
