Job summary

Uniting Holding in Ireland's pharma sector seeks an experienced Electrician to join the Engineering and Facilities team on the evening shift. You will be responsible for the safe, reliable operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems and building services in a GMP environment.

You will perform preventative and reactive maintenance, diagnose faults across manufacturing, labs, and utilities, maintain distribution systems and control panels, and ensure compliance with GMP, GDP

Qualifications

  • Recognised electrical trade qualification required.
  • Experience in industrial/manufacturing/pharma environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Readiness to work evening shift and coordinate with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in investigations and root-cause analysis for failures.

Job description

Basic Role Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Electrician to join our Engineering and Facilities team on the evening shift within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems, equipment and building services. The role requires strong electrical expertise combined with Facilities/Building Services experience, with a strong focus on GMP, safety, compliance and preventative maintenance.

Location: Onsite at our facility in Loughrea.

As our Electrician, your key responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), corrective maintenance and emergency repairs on electrical systems and facilities equipment.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults across manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse and utility areas.

  • Maintain electrical distribution systems, lighting, emergency lighting, power supplies, motors, control panels and associated equipment.

  • Support the maintenance of building services and facilities systems, including HVAC, pumps, compressors, generators, UPS systems and other critical utilities.

  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and minimise equipment and facility downtime.

  • Perform electrical inspections, testing and routine condition monitoring.

  • Complete maintenance activities in accordance with approved procedures, work permits and site safety requirements.

  • Ensure all maintenance work is documented accurately within the site's CMMS/work-order system.

  • Work in accordance with GMP, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), EHS and site quality procedures.

  • Support electrical installation, modification and upgrade projects as required.

  • Liaise with Engineering, Facilities, Production, Quality and external contractors to resolve issues efficiently.

  • Ensure contractors working on electrical/facilities systems comply with site procedures and safety requirements.

  • Participate in investigations of equipment failures and contribute to root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.

  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment.

  • Participate in the site's emergency response and out-of-hours maintenance arrangements where required.

  • LV electrical distribution and associated equipment.

  • MCCs, motor starters, contactors and control circuits.

  • Electrical panels and control systems.

  • Lighting and emergency lighting.

  • Motors, pumps and associated electrical equipment.

  • HVAC and mechanical building services.

  • Generators, UPS and emergency power systems.

  • Fire alarm and life-safety systems.

  • Building electrical services and general facilities infrastructure.

  • Preventative and reactive maintenance of critical utilities.

  • Follow GMP and site quality procedures at all times.

  • Complete maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Maintain appropriate records for maintenance, testing and inspections.

  • Follow change-control, permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures where applicable.

  • Understand the importance of maintaining a controlled and compliant manufacturing environment.

  • Support audits and inspections as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Recognised Electrical Trade Qualification.

  • Previous experience working as an electrician in an industrial, manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment.

  • Strong electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience with preventative and reactive maintenance.

  • Previous Facilities/Building Services experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.

  • Good understanding of electrical safety and safe working practices.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks during the evening shift.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Commitment to GMP, EHS and quality standards.

  • Previous experience in a GMP pharmaceutical or medical-device manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with HVAC, BMS, generators, UPS, compressors or other critical facilities systems.

  • Experience using a CMMS such as SAP, Maximo or similar.

  • Knowledge of electrical testing and inspection requirements.

  • Experience supporting engineering projects, equipment upgrades or installations.

  • Additional mechanical, instrumentation or controls experience.
