Job summary

Veolia is seeking an Electrical Technician to provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise across electrical and integrated utility systems within our energy centre in Ireland. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, steam plant operations, and power generation equipment.

You will train, mentor, and coordinate technicians while managing predictive and preventive maintenance and reliability engineering using CMMS systems.

Qualifications

• Craft-qualified Electrician with HV/LV distribution experience.
• Experience with steam plant electrical systems and boiler controls.
• Strong CMMS experience for predictive and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily electrical maintenance operations with technicians.

Job description

The Electrical Technician will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise across all electrical and integrated utility systems within the energy centre.

This role requires comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, steam plant operations, and power generation equipment.

The successful candidate will train, mentor, and coordinate technicians while managing predictive and preventive maintenance programmes using advanced CMMS systems and reliability engineering techniques.

Duties of the Role include:

• Coordinate daily operations with technicians, particularly during morning shift changeovers
• Serve as primary technical point of contact for external service providers and contractors
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) investigations on utility plant equipment faults
• Make critical decisions regarding plant operation, equipment suitability, and system isolation procedures
• Provide technical guidance during serious service outages and emergency situations
• Develop, implement, and review Predictive Maintenance (PdM), Preventive Maintenance (PM), and Corrective Maintenance programmes
• Ensure all PMs are completed on schedule to maintain optimal uptime levels
• Create and maintain Job Plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all plant equipment
• Manage CMMS systems with advanced proficiency, including data analysis and reporting
• Conduct periodic reviews of maintenance programmes and adjust strategies based on performance metrics
• Liaise with site planner and stores to identify and procure critical spare parts
• Oversee HV and LV electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, and protection systems
• Manage electrical generation systems: turbines, diesel generators, and associated control systems
• Supervise steam plant electrical integration, including boiler controls and instrumentation
• Maintain expertise in compressed air systems, including electrical motor drives and control systems
• Manage fuel oil storage and distribution systems with associated electrical monitoring and safety systems
• Ensure compliance with industrial gas installation standards and electrical safety protocols
• Apply reliability engineering techniques (FMEA, RCM, Weibull analysis) to optimize plant performance
• Support Six Sigma/Lean initiatives to improve maintenance efficiency and reduce downtime
• Identify and implement continuous improvement measures for plant efficiency and working practices
• Develop proposals to remedy recurring faults and prevent future failures
• Maintain detailed compliance and quality records, investigating all deviations on utility plant equipment
• Provide technical mentoring to shift technicians in resolving complex plant deviations and failures
• Develop team capability in electrical troubleshooting, marine systems, and power generation equipment
• Lead by example in safety compliance and best practice implementation
• Support knowledge transfer and skills development across the maintenance team
• Support capital improvement projects on utilities systems
• Participate in commissioning activities and handover from projects to operations
• Assist in planning and executing complex utility service isolations for maintenance and projects
• Collaborate with Site Engineer and HV Engineer on technical project delivery

Required skills for this role:

• Craft-qualified Electrician with proven expertise in HV and LV electrical distribution, fault diagnosis, and rectification
• Demonstrated experience in steam plant electrical systems, boiler controls, and instrumentation
• Hands-on knowledge of compressed air systems, electrical motor drives, and compressor controls
• Advanced proficiency with CMMS systems, predictive and preventive maintenance programmes, and root cause analysis
• Experience in 24/7 operational environments with critical uptime requirements
• Strong leadership and mentoring capability with analytical problem-solving skills
• Desirable: Thermography, Vibration Analysis, PLC Programming, Six Sigma/Lean, or marine engineering background
• Technical writing skills
