Job summary

Osborne is recruiting for an established Irish-owned engineering business seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their hands-on senior team. The role covers machine building, panel wiring, site installation, commissioning, fault-finding and team leadership across Ireland and occasional overseas assignments.

The ideal candidate is a qualified electrician with strong industrial automation experience, capable of progressing to a senior hands-on position while remaining technically

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified electrician with National Craft Certificate or equivalent.
  • Significant post-apprenticeship experience in industrial, manufacturing, machine building or automation environments.
  • Strong experience with PLCs, motors, VSDs and industrial automation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Experience with machine building, panel wiring and electrical installation.
  • Experience commissioning or leading electrical activities on-site.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety standards and best practices.
  • Experience supervising technicians, electricians or apprentices.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel.
  • Additional qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Automation (advantageous).

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day electrical activities in the workshop.
  • Build and wire control panels and bespoke machinery.
  • Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and drawings.
  • Wire sensors, actuators, motors, HMIs, PLCs, safety systems.
  • Electrical testing, fault finding and troubleshooting during builds.
  • Lead electrical installation and commissioning at customer sites in Ireland and overseas.
  • Coordinate electricians, technicians and apprentices.
  • Ensure electrical safety standards and best practices are followed.
  • Manage stock, tooling and workshop organisation.

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

About the Role

Osborne are recruiting on behalf of our client, an established Irish‑owned engineering business specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke automated machinery.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their team. This is a hands‑on senior role combining machine building, panel wiring, site installation, commissioning, fault‑finding and team leadership.

The role would suit a qualified electrician with strong industrial and automation experience who is ready to progress into a senior position while remaining technically hands‑on.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the day-to-day electrical activities within the workshop.
  • Build and wire control panels and bespoke machinery.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Wire sensors, actuators, motors, HMIs, PLCs, safety systems and associated equipment.
  • Carry out electrical testing, fault‑finding and troubleshooting during machine build and commissioning.
  • Lead electrical installation and commissioning activities at customer sites in Ireland and occasionally overseas.
  • Install and terminate cables, containment and associated electrical equipment.
  • Work with automation systems including PLCs, motors and VSDs.
  • Support FAT and commissioning activities alongside the automation team.
  • Lead and coordinate electricians, technicians and apprentices.
  • Ensure electrical standards, safety procedures and best practices are maintained.
  • Manage electrical priorities across multiple projects and make informed decisions when required.
  • Take ownership of electrical stock, tooling and general workshop organisation.
  • Coordinate the purchasing of electrical components, tools and consumables in line with project requirements.
  • Liaise with customers, contractors and other trades during site installation.
Requirements:
  • Fully qualified electrician with National Craft Certificate or equivalent.
  • Significant post‑apprenticeship experience in industrial, manufacturing, machine building or automation environments.
  • Strong experience with PLCs, motors, VSDs and industrial automation.
  • Excellent electrical fault‑finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Experience with machine building, panel wiring and electrical installation.
  • Previous experience with commissioning or leading electrical activities on‑site.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety, standards and best practices.
  • Experience supervising or guiding technicians, electricians or apprentices.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel.
  • Additional qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Automation, along with experience in robotics, HMIs or schematic development, would be advantageous.
