Electrical Draughtsperson - Electrical Design & Schematic Drafting

Position Overview

To support the electrical design team by producing accurate electrical schematics and panel layouts for industrial applications. This role is suited to individuals with a strong electrical background, particularly in design and panel building. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and reviewing electrical systems and schematics for a range of industrial and commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Drafting:

  • Develop detailed electrical designs and schematics for power distribution, control systems, and automation projects.
  • Produce accurate wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, and control panel layouts.
  • Use industry-standard CAD/ECAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar) to create and update technical drawings.
  • Ensure designs meet project requirements, client specifications, and applicable codes and standards.

Technical Engineering Duties:

  • Assist with performing electrical load calculations, cable sizing, and equipment selection.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems with mechanical, civil, and architectural designs.
  • Attend design reviews and implement revisions based on feedback from clients, engineers, and project managers.
  • Provide technical input during procurement, manufacturing, and installation stages.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and contractors to clarify technical requirements.
  • Support project scheduling, cost estimation, and material selection for electrical works.
  • Ensure timely delivery of design documentation in line with project milestones.

Compliance & Quality:

  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant IEC, BS, or other applicable standards.
  • Conduct design risk assessments and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Maintain quality control processes for drawings and documentation.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5–10 years of professional experience in electrical design and schematic drafting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent ECAD software.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, power distribution, control systems, and automation design.
  • Experience with electrical calculations, cable sizing, and equipment selection.
  • Understanding of relevant electrical standards (IEC, BS, EN, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design documentation.
  • Experience in low voltage (LV) and extra-low voltage (ELV) systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC/automation integration in electrical designs.
  • Experience with BIM/Revit MEP for electrical services.
