Job summary

TRS is recruiting an Electrical Design Team Lead / Manager (Substations) to join the engineering team based in Dublin with hybrid flexibility. You will own electrical design delivery and provide leadership, mentoring, and technical direction on major Power, Renewable & Substation projects.

Travel to site may be required, with predominantly office-based activity. You will be responsible for ensuring safety, quality and compliance with ESB/Eirgrid specs while coordinating multidisciplinary design

Qualifications

• Honours Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years industry experience.
• Familiarity with ESB/Eirgrid specifications & design requirements is a plus.

This role is primarily based in Dublin , with flexibility across other office locations. While largely office-based, occasional site travel may be required.

Job Description

• As part of the growing Engineering Team, our client are currently recruiting for a Team Lead (Electrical Design - Substations) to join the team. The successful candidate will be based in the Dublin office (with flexibility to work from one of the other office locations). Travel to and from site may occasionally be required, but this will be predominantly an office-based position.
• As Team Lead, the successful candidate will be taking on a senior leadership and engineering management role on major Power, Renewable & Substation projects. You will be responsible for identifying, managing, and coordinating all electrical design requirements and deliverables on substation projects. You will be involved in technical and strategic decision making. You will be a team leader, and provide mentoring, support and technical development to team members. You will ensure that all design outputs meet the required technical, quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as a Team Lead and Substation Technical Expert within Engineering Team
• Ownership of all elements of electrical substation design including primary design, secondary design, design calculations, procurement specifications, etc.
• Allocate tasks to team members, monitor progress vs costs & programme
• Review & approve team submissions in advance of issue, identifying value engineering opportunities where possible
• Support team members in all projects as assigned throughout the lifetime of each contract
• Take ownership & actively manage substation design projects when required
• Promote a safety culture and safe working environment
• Identify design, construction and commercial risks and propose mitigation techniques
• Assist tendering department as required with bid submissions
• Business Development & client liaison where required
• Manage substation design projects from feasibility stage through to construction and handover to client
• Contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary design team taking responsibility for all aspects of design outputs
• Support the operations team in terms of technical advice & provide design solutions where required
• Review & approve construction work packs ahead of commencement of on-site work
• Design processes through on the job learning, shadowing, training courses, providing feedback, etc.
• Carry out annual Performance Development Reviews for assigned team members
• Engage with processes as required under Engineers Ireland Accredited Employers standard (e.g. mentoring, knowledge sharing, CPD identification for team members etc)
• Identify & follow up on potential project opportunities as they arise
• Keep up to date on new technologies, build techniques and design innovations to drive improvements in cost, quality, and timescales

Required Experience

• Honours Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
• 8+ years industry experience
• Proficient use and knowledge of software such as AutoCAD, ePlan, MS Office, (experience with design studies and cable design software would be an advantage)
• Strong knowledge of the substation, utilities and renewables sector
• Familiarity with current ESB/Eirgrid specifications & design requirements would be an advantage
