Job summary

Zoetis is seeking an EHS Specialist to oversee EHS programs across Rathdrum and Tallaght, ensuring safe, compliant and reliable manufacturing operations. The role focuses on incident reporting, risk assessment, training and industrial hygiene improvements.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering/science/EHS, 3–5 years in a regulated environment, and solid knowledge of EHS legislation and training delivery. Position requires on-site presence in Ireland.

Job description

Role Description

The EHS specialist, reporting to the EHS Lead, takes responsibility and ownership for all activities associated with their assigned EHS programs across Zoetis Rathdrum and Zoetis Tallaght to assure safe, compliant and reliable manufacturing and supply operations.

They will ensure that applicable standards and regulations related to their assigned EHS programs in particular incident reporting and investigation and risk assessment planning and implementation, including tracking and following actions up, report writing and recordkeeping are implemented in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

They will also develop and implement awareness campaigns and incentive schemes and participate in the management of the permit to work system.

The EHS Specialist provides technical support in the assessment and continuous improvements of EHS systems and work practices, with a strong emphasis on the practical implementation of good industry practices within the facility operations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Key objectives of this position include:

  1. Ensuring compliance with applicable Regulatory and corporate EHS requirements in a manner consistent with continued plant profitability. Ensure local adherence with corporate policies and reporting in accordance with corporate requirements.
  2. Working with the EHS Lead and all colleagues to drive improvements in all EHS programmes.
  3. Managing, developing, maintaining and conducting EHS related risk assessments.
  4. Owning and developing the industrial hygiene program.
  5. Focusing on continuous improvement, across all functions, as we strive for EHS Excellence and a goal of Zero accidents and incidents.
  6. Overseeing EHS management of Capex projects.
  7. Facilitating the management of change process from an EHS perspective.
  8. Leading incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis, identifying corrective and preventive actions. Presenting findings to Management and driving the tracking and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
  9. Developing and delivering relevant training and awareness programmes.
  10. Participating in other Health & Safety initiatives and projects as appropriate.
SYSTEM OWNER / SUBSYSTEM OWNER RESPONSIBILITIES
System Owner (SO)

System Owners have overall accountability for the site Quality Systems for which they are responsible and in particular for:

  • Providing strategic & proactive direction with respect to the System (across the site) in terms of content and execution.
  • Providing support, guidance & coaching to Sub System Owners (SSO).
  • Ensuring that SSO regularly review sub-systems for their effectiveness, escalating issues where required to site Quality Council (QRC) for action & remediation.
  • Owning relevant System issues in the site Compliance Plan.
  • Defining resources as needed & communicating resource needs to Site Lead.
  • Applying people change control across Sub-Systems within their responsibility.
  • Ensuring that SSO have proactive continuous improvement plans for their Sub-Systems.
Sub System Owner (SSO)

Sub-System Owners have overall accountability for the site Quality Sub-Systems for which they are responsible and in particular for:

  • Providing strategic & proactive direction with respect to their Sub-System (across the site) in terms of content and execution.
  • Regularly reviewing their Sub-System & presenting Sub-System review to Quality Council (QRC) as required. Escalating issues where required to the System Owner (SO) and site QRC for action and remediation.
  • Owning relevant Sub-System issues in the site Compliance Plan.
  • Defining resources as needed & communicating resource needs to SO.
  • Developing & implementing proactive continuous improvement plans for their sub-system.
  • In partnership with the SO, ensuring that there are clearly defined expert(s) for each sub-system, acting as a point of contact during inspections.
  • Overseeing all documents associated with their sub-system and providing input to the document owners during updates.
  • Providing comments on new/revised draft policies and guidelines and completing impact assessments where required.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Directly reports to the EHS lead. Strong working relationship with all employees across all departments. Provide additional assistance to departments in other areas where required and undertake all other reasonable requests. All employees are expected to model Zoetis Core Beliefs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum education of bachelor's degree in engineering, science or EHS, with a master's degree preferred.
  • Min 3-5 years operating in a similar position in the Pharmaceutical Industry, or other technically complex, highly regulated environment. Seveso and/or IEL related experience are an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of EHS legislation.
  • Training design and delivery.
TECHNICAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • Experience in the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) industry or similar technically complex manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety regulations, procedures and processes.
  • Knowledge of workplace hazards and hierarchy of controls.
  • Knowledge of general EHS principles.
  • A good understanding of Industrial Hygiene requirements.
  • Excellent team player and ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines while managing various projects. Strong time management skills.
  • Understanding of EHS regulatory and quality requirements.
  • Ability to make risk based decisions.
  • Ability to influence.
PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The role is primarily based at Rathdrum, Ireland with periodic attendance at Tallaght, Ireland.
