Job summary

Mercury Engineering is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety professional to lead on-site EHS management for data centre projects in Ireland with frequent travel to Europe. You will oversee safety plans, risk assessments and on-site inductions, ensuring compliance with Mercury and client policies.

Essential criteria include EU legislation qualification, 3+ years of large construction site EHS experience, and willingness to travel. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Environmental, Health & Safety as per EU legislation.
  • Travelling to EU is essential.
  • Experience working in Data Centre Construction.
  • 3+ years' experience of managing environmental, health and safety on large construction sites.
  • Flexibility in working patterns where necessary.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and possess strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Good team-working skills

Responsibilities

  • Adherence to the project & Mercury Engineering Safety Management system.
  • Adherence to relevant Environmental, Health & Safety statutory provisions & legislation.
  • Assist with onboarding of Mercury employees & Subcontractors as per EU legislation - ensuring all relevant documentation is in place
  • Act as point of contact on site for coordination with local Municipality
  • Coordination in the development of task specific Method statements, Risk assessments, Safe plan of action, Permit to work.
  • Compliance with the project execution plan.
  • Coordination of project safety indicators.
  • Carry out toolbox talks and on-site safety inspections.
  • Maintain records of statutory inspections and safety file up to date.
  • Adopt a proactive approach to project EHS requirements.
  • Liaison with site Project Management on environmental, health & safety issues.

Note: This role will be based in Ireland but will be frequent travel to Comms projects in Europe from time to time.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Adherence to the project & Mercury Engineering Safety Management system
  • Adherence to relevant Environmental, Health & Safety statutory provisions & legislation
  • Adherence to Mercury Engineering & Client Environmental, Health & Safety Plans.
  • Assist with the onboarding of Mercury employees & Subcontractors as per Finnish Legislation - ensuring all relevant documentation is in place
  • Act as point of contact on site for coordination with local Municipality
  • Coordination in the development of task specific Method statements, Risk assessments, Safe plan of action, Permit to work.
  • Compliance with the project execution plan.
  • Coordination of project safety indicators.
  • Good Safety Practices are managed & maintained.
  • Ongoing C.O.S.H.H assessments, control of hazardous substances.
  • Ensuring that safety interventions are completed & registered.
  • Carry out regular site audits and inspection, document results and follow up on any corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of statutory inspections are available for project activities, tool and plant.
  • Adopt a Proactive approach to project EHS requirements.
  • Ability to work either independently or as part of a team.
  • Provide Safety input to site management & at site EHS forums.
  • Ensure project sub-contractors adhere to project & group EHS policies & procedures.
  • Ensure that Mercury Engineering induction & training is coordinated, managed & maintained.
  • Project PPE is resourced & available.
  • Compile & carry out Toolbox talks, as necessary
  • Assist or carry out accident investigation reports in a timely manner & ensure communication to Mercury Engineering project management.
  • Welfare & Hygiene facilities are in place, managed & maintained.
  • Liaison with site Project Management on environmental, health & safety issues.
  • Up to date documentation is included with the Safety File.
  • Waste reduction and recycling programmes are maintained in line with project policies & procedures.
  • Any other duties associated with this role.
