Job description

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Direct responsibility for the efficient management of all portering functions and services provided in all internal and external areas of the Hospital.
• Manage the portering services team in a cost effective and efficient manner to meet service needs.
• Monitor portering standards constantly and where necessary adjust Portering services operations to assure standards are maintained and improved.
• Ensure adherence to all hospital policies and procedures including the Hospital Waste management Policy & guidelines.
• The head porter must ensure that there is an onsite porter on duty carrying a bleep 7 days a week. This will be the Head Porter, the Deputy Porter or another nominated porter.
• In consultation with the Chief Operations Officer or designee, the head porter should seek ways to develop and enhance the services provided by the Portering department to provide added value to the hospital.
• In consultation with the Portering team, the head porter should lead changes in work practices, procedures, techniques or in the use of technologies having regard to development and in accordance with agreed core standards and best practice and in compliance with statutory requirement
