About the Engineering Function

The engineering and delivery teams are responsible for designing, building, testing, and deploying technology that drives large-scale enterprise digital transformation. With teams across Ireland and the UK, they focus on cloud adoption, DevSecOps, automation, cybersecurity, and modern engineering practices — ensuring secure, scalable, high-performance solutions. They embrace modern methodologies like Scaled Agile, delivering core systems and innovative customer-facing applications.

Role Overview

This senior engineering role involves leading DevOps initiatives, collaborating with development teams to modernise software delivery, building automation, implementing infrastructure-as-code, and supporting efficient deployment pipelines within a regulated environment. The ideal candidate is strategic, technically proficient, and capable of stakeholder communication and hands-on coding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand software delivery lifecycles and requirements.
  • Guide teams on DevOps tools, environments, and best practices aligned with the central DevOps Centre of Excellence (DCoE).
  • Contribute to DCoE initiatives, including documentation, tooling, and platform improvements.
  • Promote automation, clean pipelines, and continuous process improvement.
  • Balance technical implementation with high-level stakeholder communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
Core Skills & Experience
  • Experience releasing applications into production or supporting production workloads.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in software delivery.
  • Proficiency with tools like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
  • Strong scripting skills (Python, Perl, Ruby) and software development experience (Java, C#, Golang).
  • Familiarity with APIs and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Bamboo.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience managing virtualised environments (e.g., VMWare).
  • Knowledge of SSL, cryptography, and certificate management automation.
  • Familiarity with advanced configuration management tools like Ansible Tower, Chef Server.
  • Experience with cloud automation tools such as CloudFormation or ARM templates.
  • Operational experience with container orchestration and workload management.
