Job description

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of Life Science engineering and emerging digital technology. The successful candidate will help shape how digital engineering, automation and AI are applied to real projects, working with experienced engineers and digital specialists to turn practical problems into solutions that can be used across the business.

Role purpose

The Digital Coordinator supports the delivery of safe, high-quality and efficient Life Science engineering projects by applying digital engineering, automation, data and artificial intelligence in practical project environments.

The role sits between engineering teams and digital technology. It combines an understanding of engineering design and project delivery with the ability to develop, configure, test and implement digital workflows. The successful candidate will help connect engineering opportunities with digital outcomes, support existing digital solutions, and turn promising ideas into reliable and adoptable project capabilities.

The role will contribute to Jacobs Ireland Life Science digital delivery priorities, including design automation, model and information quality, data-driven reporting, AI-assisted engineering workflows and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering-led digital improvement Work with discipline leads and project teams to understand delivery problems, define requirements and identify proportionate digital, automation or AI-enabled improvements.
  • Digital solution delivery Develop, configure, test and deploy solutions across the project lifecycle, including workflows, scripts, dashboards, data products, model-based tools and integrations.
  • Design automation Identify and deliver opportunities to automate repetitive engineering tasks, design checks, data extraction, model review, quantity workflows and information-management activities.
  • AI integration into engineering Support the evaluation and implementation of AI capabilities such as document and model search, structured data extraction, natural-language interfaces, knowledge retrieval, classification, anomaly detection and AI-assisted checking.
  • Data and information quality Help establish reliable data flows, structured information, data standards and validation routines that support engineering decisions, dashboards, automation and AI applications.
  • Solution lifecycle management Manage initiatives through definition, prioritisation, development, testing, pilot, deployment, support and continuous improvement. Record assumptions, risks, dependencies, decisions and lessons learned.
  • User adoption and capability building Prepare guidance, demonstrations and training; support workshops and user testing; and help engineering teams adopt new tools and ways of working.
  • Technical support and improvement Provide practical support for existing digital solutions, investigate issues, coordinate fixes and feed user feedback into future releases.
  • Value measurement Capture evidence of benefits such as reduced manual effort, improved quality, earlier issue identification, better information accessibility and improved consistency across projects.
Typical activities
  • Work with engineering disciplines to map current processes, identify pain points and define clear digital requirements.
  • Build or coordinate prototypes and proofs of concept using appropriate Microsoft, Autodesk, data, automation and AI technologies.
  • Connect engineering data from models, drawings, schedules, specifications, reports and other project sources where appropriate.
  • Develop repeatable workflows and reusable components that can be applied across Life Science projects.
  • Create test plans covering functional behaviour, data quality, performance, usability, security and AI output quality where relevant.
  • Support deployment into project environments, including documentation, version control, user permissions, handover and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with Digital Delivery, engineering specialists, IT, vendors and client representatives.
  • Promote the use of approved tools, information standards, governance controls and secure working practices.
