Job summary

PE Global are delighted to be working with a leading Dublin-based contractor to appoint an experienced Design Manager for a large-scale residential development in Dublin 9. You will report to the Project Manager and coordinate design across architects, structural engineers, MEP and specialist subcontractors.

Responsibilities include reviewing design programmes, ensuring on-time deliverables, managing design risks, supporting procurement, and maintaining clear documentation.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in engineering, construction management or related subject.
• Postgraduate qualifications and/or membership of Engineers Ireland desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the design process across disciplines (architects, structural engineers, MEP, specialists).
• Review design programmes to ensure timely design deliverables supporting procurement and construction schedules.
• Chair and coordinate design team meetings, track actions and resolve queries promptly.
• Review drawings, specs and submissions for compliance with project requirements and regulations.
• Identify and manage design risks and buildability issues early in the lifecycle.
• Liaise with Project Manager, site teams and commercial to align design information with construction activities.
• Coordinate technical information flow between consultants, subcontractors and stakeholders.
• Manage RFIs, technical queries and design changes with clear documentation.
• Support value engineering to improve cost efficiency while maintaining quality.
• Assist procurement of subcontractors to align with design intent.
• Ensure design documentation is fully coordinated prior to construction to reduce clashes.

PE Global are delighted to be working with a very good client of ours who are a leading tier 1 Building and Fit Out contractor, head office based in Dublin 17. We are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their expanding team for a large scale residential development in Dublin, located in D9.

Reporting to the Project Manager:

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and coordinate the design process across multiple disciplines including architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and specialist subcontractors.
• Review and monitor design programmes to ensure design deliverables are issued on time to support procurement and construction schedules.
• Chair and coordinate design team meetings, ensuring actions are tracked and design queries are resolved in a timely manner.
• Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, building regulations and client specifications.
• Identify and manage design risks and buildability issues early in the project lifecycle and work with the project team to develop practical solutions.
• Liaise closely with the Project Manager, site management teams and commercial teams to ensure design information supports construction activities.
• Coordinate the flow of technical information between consultants, subcontractors and internal project stakeholders.
• Manage and track RFIs, technical queries and design changes, ensuring clear documentation and communication.
• Assist with the value engineering process, identifying opportunities to improve cost efficiency while maintaining design quality and performance.
• Support the procurement of subcontractors and specialist packages by reviewing technical proposals and ensuring alignment with design intent.
• Ensure design documentation is fully coordinated prior to construction, reducing clashes and delays on site.
• Maintain clear records of design decisions, approvals and revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Work collaboratively with the client and stakeholders to ensure the design meets project objectives, programme milestones and quality expectations.

Requirements:

Candidates should have a degree level qualification in engineering, construction management or related subject, while post graduate qualifications and/or membership of a relevant professional institute such as Engineers Ireland is desirable.
