Job Description

Farrans is seeking a motivated Design Engineer to join our team delivering major water and wastewater infrastructure projects for Uisce Éireann. Based from our Monaghan office, you will play a key role in developing, coordinating and reviewing civil and utility design, ensuring solutions are technically robust, buildable and aligned with project requirements. This role suits someone with a civil engineering background, ideally with experience in utilities, pipelines, water networks or civils‑heavy design.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design development from contract award through to construction, ensuring information is delivered to programme
  • Coordinate with internal and external designers to provide clear direction, track progress and manage approvals
  • Review designs for compliance and buildability including standards, specifications, temporary works and constructability
  • Support engineering team with technical queries, design resolutions and value engineering opportunities
  • Ensure designs are ready for construction ahead of programme requirements
  • Assist with risk management including identification of hazards, defects and non‑compliance
  • Contribute to dimensional control and setting out information ensuring accuracy and suitability for site teams
  • Implement formal design workflows including document control, approvals and change management
  • Support BIM processes and collaborate with the BIM Manager as required
  • Engage with client and stakeholders to ensure design intent, safety duties and project obligations are met
Qualifications
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in civil or utility design engineering (water, wastewater, pipelines, drainage or similar)
  • Understanding of modern civils construction methods and design‑to‑build interfaces
  • Knowledge of Uisce Eireann standards or similar regulated utility frameworks (desirable)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS_Office; experience with Asta or BIM tools an advantage
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to engage across design and site teams
  • Full clean manual driving licence
  • Valid Safe Pass (or willingness to obtain)
