Role Overview

As a Dental Hygienist within the Irish Defence Forces, you will provide essential dental care to military personnel. This challenging role will involve offering preventative care, treatment, and education on oral hygiene in a variety of environments, including high-pressure situations during training and operations.

You will be responsible for ensuring that Defence Forces personnel maintain good oral health, which is integral to their overall fitness and operational effectiveness. Your work will contribute directly to their well-being and readiness, ensuring they remain in peak condition for the demands of military life, from training exercises to overseas missions.

Locations: Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Dublin and Haulbowline, Co Cork.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, your core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Dental Care Provision: Delivering preventative care, professional cleanings, and treatment for military personnel in various environments.
• Oral Health Assessments: Conducting regular dental examinations to detect early signs of oral disease and developing treatment plans tailored to the needs of military personnel.
• Preventative Education: Providing health education and promoting proper oral hygiene practices, including nutrition and preventative care initiatives to improve long-term oral health.
• Record Keeping and Reporting: Ensuring the accurate management of dental records, maintaining confidentiality in accordance with Defence Forces regulations and national healthcare standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for the position of Dental Hygienist, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Dental Hygiene Qualification: A recognised qualification in dental hygiene and full registration with the Irish Dental Council (IDC) are essential.
• Professional Experience: Previous experience in a dental care setting, preferably within a clinical or military environment, will be advantageous, though not mandatory.
• Skills and Attributes: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a dedicated approach to providing excellent patient care.
