Job summary

Children’s Health Ireland is inviting a paediatric allergist to join a tertiary service providing specialist assessment and management of complex allergic disease in children. The role supports regional secondary care and the expansion of CHI's allergy network across Leinster and beyond.

The post holder will help develop the service as a centre of excellence, lead on governance tasks, and ensure smooth onboarding and continuity of care across CHI sites.

Qualifications

  • Specialist registration in Paediatrics with the Medical Council.
  • At least two years of certified postgraduate training in Paediatric Allergy.
  • Higher degree (MSc/MD/PhD) in an allergy related area is desirable.
  • EAACI Knowledge exam completed is desirable.
  • Research experience in paediatric allergy is desirable.
  • Leadership and MDT management skills are desirable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills are desirable.
  • Knowledge of governance and service reform in Irish paediatric healthcare is desirable.
  • Teaching and audit leadership skills are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Join colleagues to develop this allergy service as a centre of excellence.
  • Maintain a strong clinical governance framework within the department.
  • Lead on Audit, Rota, Safety, PPPG and related activities.
  • Provide 0.1WTE backfill for the Clinical Speciality Lead.
  • Work across CHI sites and services in line with organisational requirements.

Education

Specialist registration in Paediatrics (Medical Council of Ireland)
Two years certified postgraduate training in Paediatric Allergy
Higher degree MSc/MD/PhD in allergy related area
Completed EAACI Knowledge exam
Previous research in paediatric allergy
Leadership and MDT management skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
Knowledge of governance and service reform in Irish paediatric healthcare
Teaching and audit leadership skills

Job description

Purpose of role: The paediatric allergy service at CHI currently operates as a tertiary allergy service, providing specialist assessment and management of children with complex allergic disease, including food allergy, drug hypersensitivity and perioperative anaphylaxis, venom allergy, aeroallergy, chronic urticaria, mast cell disorders and anaphylaxis. The service also provides secondary level allergy care for all of Leinster and for children and adolescents living in regions with no/minimal access to local allergy services.

Purpose of role: The paediatric allergy service at CHI currently operates as a tertiary allergy service, providing specialist assessment and management of children with complex allergic disease, including food allergy, drug hypersensitivity and perioperative anaphylaxis, venom allergy, aeroallergy, chronic urticaria, mast cell disorders and anaphylaxis. The service also provides secondary level allergy care for all of Leinster and for children and adolescents living in regions with no/minimal access to local allergy services. The successful applicant will join their colleagues in the continued development of this allergy service as a centre of excellence, providing our patients with the option of all suitable care models. The post holder will facilitate maintenance of a strong clinical governance framework, within the department, by taking lead on some of the key components such as Audit, Rota, Safety, PPPG. The post holder will also facilitate 0.1WTE backfill for the Clinical Speciality Lead. The successful candidate will be required to work across CHI sites and services in line with organisational requirements and the development of the new children's hospital and associated services.

Essential criteria:
  • (A) Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Paediatrics

AND

  • (B) At least Two years certified postgraduate training in Paediatric Allergy
Desirable Criteria:
  • Higher degree MSc, MD PhD in allergy related area
  • Completed EAACI Knowledge exam
  • Previous research in the subspecialty of paediatric allergy
  • Leadership and MDT management skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • Knowledge of governance and service reform within Irish paediatric healthcare.
  • Teaching and audit leadership skills
