Job summary

NHS Highland in Inverness is recruiting an experienced Consultant Medical Oncologist to join the Breast service at Raigmore Hospital on a 10 PA per week basis, with scope for part-time work and some home working. You will work alongside a dynamic team across Breast surgery, Radiology and Nursing, with a 1 in 6 on-call commitment and opportunities to contribute to Phase II/III trials. The Highlands outpatient and inpatient facilities support high-quality, patient-centered cancer care.

This post is to support the Medical Oncology needs for the department, specifically Breast, within NHS Highland. The interested applicant is encouraged to get in touch with the department to discuss further.

You will be working alongside dynamic and supportive clinical colleagues in Breast surgery, Radiology, Nursing and a range of medical & surgical specialties. The hospitals in the Highlands are pleasant and friendly places to work.

NHS Highland covers an area from Caithness in the far north of Scotland to Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula. Secondary healthcare is provided by Raigmore (district general) Hospital in Inverness and rural general hospitals (RGHs) in Wick, Fort William and Oban. Our team is based in Inverness and at full cohort, consists of 6 consultant oncologists who provide a comprehensive service across the Highlands. Approximately 1000 new oncology patients are seen annually. We are keen to attract Medical Oncologists, whose skills and outlook complement those of the existing team and in order to do so can negotiate job plans which accommodate research, teaching and development. The department has an enthusiastic and dedicated clinical trials team with high participation rates in Phase II and III trials. As a member of the North Cancer Alliance (North of Scotland Cancer Network (NOSCAN)), the NHS Highland Oncology Service benefits from being in a well‑established collaboration with two other Cancer Centres in Grampian and Tayside providing excellent peer support. The department has a modern outpatient suite which includes a day case chemotherapy area. There are 16 inpatient beds shared with Clinical Haematology. The department also has a networked treatment facility with 2 IGRT/IMRT capable multi‑energy linear accelerators with VMAT and electrons, CT simulator, RayStation planning software. The department enjoys excellent working relationships with colleagues within the community, secondary care, primary care and has four nurse‑led chemotherapy units in peripheral hospitals.
