Job summary

NHS Highland is recruiting Consultants in Anaesthesia for Raigmore Hospital and the National Treatment Centre in Inverness. The post is substantive and based on a 10 programmed activity framework (8 DCC: 2 SPA).

The successful applicant will supervise anaesthesia trainees and contribute to a high-quality, innovative service. Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of anticipated CCT award.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision to Anaesthetic trainees rotating to Raigmore on the North of Scotland Deanery rotation.
  • Help develop a productive, sustainable, state-of-the-art anaesthesia service with quality improvement projects and efficient work streams.
  • Work in the Raigmore Hospital theatre suite and contribute to a 1:18 on-call rota covering emergencies across specialties and age groups.

This is an exciting time to join the expanding, friendly and dynamic team of Anaesthetists at Raigmore Hospital and the new National Treatment Centre - Highland (NTC-H).

The successful applicants will join a team of enthusiastic anaesthetists and help to develop a productive, sustainable, state of the art service with quality improvement projects and efficient work streams.

At Raigmore hospital you will work in the refurbished bright theatre suite with modern equipment and will contribute to a 1:18 on call rota covering a variety of emergency services across different specialties and age groups.

In addition to work at Raigmore, you may have clinical commitments at NTC - H. The NTC-H building is purpose built and hosts the entire Eye Care Service and additional operating capacity for both the Orthopaedic and the Ophthalmology Services, with a 24-bedded Ward on site. There are 2 Orthopaedic theatres for elective hip and knee joint replacement surgery and 3 Operating theatres for Ophthalmology. The NTC-H is sited on the beautiful Inverness Campus. Due to the unique proximity, there are significant opportunities to build on current research, education and innovation links with the UHi and other key stakeholders.

The successful applicants will be expected to provide clinical supervision to Anaesthetic trainees that rotate to Raigmore on the North of Scotland Deanery rotation.

This is a substantive post and is available on a ten programmed activity basis (8 DCC: 2 SPA) and applicants with a broad General & Regional Anaesthesia interest would be welcome.

This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and able individual to join the department at a really exciting time and to live in a dynamic and developing area of the Scottish Highlands with a fantastic outdoor lifestyle.

The Anaesthetic Department has 35 Consultants, inclusive of 7 intensivists who also contribute to the anaesthesia service, 7 Speciality Doctors and 16 Specialty Trainees. There is a separate on-call for intensive care.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of the anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview.
