Job summary

Vhi Health & Wellbeing is seeking a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the Paediatric ADHD Service in Carrickmines, Dublin. This fixed-term, full-time role offers the chance to contribute to a growing service and to work alongside experienced developmental paediatricians and multidisciplinary colleagues.

You will provide end-to-end care from initial assessment through diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up, while promoting child-centred care within a collaborative governance

Qualifications

• Be registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in the CHAD psychiatry specialty.
• Be eligible to practise independently in Ireland.
• Significant clinical experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Experience working within a community or scheduled care setting.
• Experience delivering care within the Irish healthcare system, whether in public or private practice.
• Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in assessment and management of child and adolescent mental health conditions.
• Commitment to CPD and staying updated with guidelines and best practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing management of children and adolescents attending the Paediatric ADHD Service.
• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care from initial assessment through to diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up.
• Work within the scope of practice, policies and clinical governance structures.
• Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records, including assessments, treatment recommendations and outcomes.
• Arrange and review appropriate investigations and ensure timely follow-up of patients.
• Make appropriate referrals to internal and external services, ensuring clear communication and continuity of care.
• Promote a holistic approach to care, recognising the child within family, school and wider social context.
• Advocate for children and young people, ensuring their welfare and best interests are central to all clinical decision-making.
• Provide families with evidence-based advice, education and support to promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
• Maintain awareness of child development, safeguarding and child protection issues.
• Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives and service development activities.
• Contribute to accreditation and regulatory requirements relating to the Paediatric Service.
• Support the efficient management and continuous improvement of clinical services within Vhi Health & Wellbeing.
• Maintain professional competence and engage in continuing medical education in line with Medical Council and Royal College requirements.

What will you need to be successful

Qualifications & Registration

• Be registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Be eligible to practise independently in Ireland.

Experience

• Significant clinical experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Experience working within a community or scheduled care setting.
• Experience delivering care within the Irish healthcare system, whether in public or private practice.
• Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and management of child and adolescent mental health conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to manage acute presentations and provide appropriate immediate care where required.
• A commitment to maintaining up-to-date clinical knowledge and skills through Continuing Professional Development (CPD), in line with current guidelines and best practice.
