Job summary

Veolia Ireland is seeking a Construction Site Manager for a 12-month specified purpose contract in Virginia, Co. Cavan.

The role leads on-site civils, deep excavations and pipework installation for water/wastewater projects, with a strong emphasis on health and safety, quality and environmental management. You will manage the site team and subcontractors, coordinate with project stakeholders, and ensure compliance with project plans and RAMS.

Qualifications

  • Civil or Trade background showing progression to management level
  • 10 years’ experience on multi-discipline site-based projects preferably water or wastewater
  • Up to 10 years’ site management experience in water/wastewater
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Excellent oral and written reporting skills
  • Good communication skills
  • IOSH SHE for Construction Site Managers or similar is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage, operate and run all site activities on behalf of Veolia
  • Develop and maintain H&S file on site
  • Plan project with Project Manager ensuring requirements, drawings and Safety proposals are agreed
  • Promote high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental management
  • Oversee site team and subcontractors per Veolia Minimum Requirement toolkit
  • Review RAMS and Lift Plans from subcontractors for safe working methods
  • Carry out regular H&S audits and toolbox talks
  • Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports on-site activities
  • Coordinate with Client, Project Team and Contractors
  • Ensure timely completion per project programme
  • Maintain commercial awareness and resolve disputes & claims

Construction Site Manager

Location: Virginia, Co. Cavan

Duration: 12 month specified purpose contract

Weekly Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm

Overview of the role

This is a Construction Site Agent within the Water/Waste Water Industry. The project involves heavy civils, deep excavations, temporary works in the form of sheet piling/ cofferdam/dewatering and pipework installation. It includes the construction of large insitu concrete water tanks and the building enclosure is a steel frame with blockwork and cladding. The role involves leading the construction team and subcontractors on site and will have the responsibility to put H&S of site personnel at the top of the agenda. The role will interact with the following departments: Veolia Design and Project Management Teams, Client, Operations on site, Contractors and sub-contractors. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects across a wide range of sectors, including industrial, pharmaceutical, healthcare and municipal. This is a site based position dependent on the successful applicant, but the incumbent may be required to travel to other Veolia sites, plants and offices throughout Ireland.

Day to Day Role
  • Manage, operate and run all site activities on behalf of Veolia
  • Develop and maintain H&S file on site
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to plan the project effectively ensuring project requirements, specifications, design drawings and Health & Safety proposals are agreed upon and a programme is in place
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, quality and environmental Management
  • Day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site team and the work of any subcontractors in accordance with Veolia Minimum Requirement (VMR) toolkit standard
  • Identify, prevent and report unsafe behaviour, defects and events on site (i.e. accidents, incidents and close calls) updating AVA as required in accordance with Veolia Minimum Requirement (VMR)
  • A proactive approach to resolving any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise and associated reporting to the Project Manager
  • Assist with project handover and ensuring defect/ snag-free completion
  • Carry out regular H&S audits and toolbox talks
  • Manage all site-based operatives, overseeing all aspects of their work including carrying out safety inductions, tool box talks, controlling the quality of work, ensuring method statement and order fulfilment, cleanliness and tidiness, the use of plant and tools, the reduction of waste and use of PPE
  • Reviewing of RAMS, Lift Plans etc. from subcontractors to ensure a safe working method for all activities on site
  • Reviewing performance against targets and identifying and managing potential risks and opportunities
  • Issuing of permits and Safe Plans of Action (SPA’s) as required
  • Chair daily co-ordination/whiteboard meetings
  • Chair weekly internal progress review meetings
  • Liaison with Project Team, Veolia Risk & Assurance department, Equipment Suppliers, Contractors and Client as required
  • Management of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Automation subcontractors
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports on-site activities
  • Attendance at weekly and monthly client progress meetings
  • Programming and scheduling of all work on site
  • Ensure compliance with project programme for timely completion of the works
  • Maintain commercial awareness and play a leading role in resolving disputes & claims
  • Overall responsibility for the monitoring of material conformance and workmanship quality against the ITP and the Project Quality Plan
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with the following during the construction phase: Environmental Plan / Waste Management Plan / Construction H&S Plan / Emergency Plan /Project Schedule
Qualifications and Experience
  • Civil or Trade background showing progression to management level 10 years’ experience working in roles on multi-discipline site-based projects preferably water or Waste Water
  • Up to 10 years’ site management experience in water/wastewater industry
  • Previous experience in Civil construction of Water Treatment plants will be an advantage
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Excellent oral and written reporting skills
  • Good communication skills required
  • Computer literacy in Google Sheets, Docs & email will be an advantage Preferably to have IOSH SHE for Construction Site Managers or similar
