Role Overview:

The Planning Manager will lead the project planning function across a portfolio of major projects. This is a strategic and delivery-focused role requiring a strong grasp of construction sequencing, resource planning, and stakeholder coordination. You will manage a team of planners and work closely with project, commercial, and design leads to ensure effective project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the project planning function across multiple active projects
  • Develop, monitor, and manage project programmes (tender and live stage) using tools like Primavera P6 and Asta Powerproject
  • Provide input into methodology and logistics plans for tenders and project execution
  • Work closely with site teams, project managers, and commercial teams to align programmes with budget and delivery timelines
  • Identify and mitigate programme risks through proactive planning and reporting
  • Analyse critical paths, float, and impact scenarios to ensure timely project delivery
  • Produce high-quality visual planning and sequencing documentation for stakeholder presentations
  • Manage, mentor, and support a team of planners and junior planning staff
  • Provide regular updates and reporting to Directors and Project Leads

Key Requirements:

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in construction planning, including live site planning and pre-construction/tender planning
  • Proven experience working for a Main contractor on large-scale building or infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject is essential
  • Excellent knowledge of construction methodologies and project sequencing
  • Strong leadership, communication, and reporting skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in high-pressure environments and deliver under tight deadlines
