Job summary

Walls Construction is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor in Ireland to provide local advice and support to enable managers and staff to meet safety responsibilities to the highest standards. The advisor will help Walls Construction achieve zero tolerance to health and safety incidents and contribute to the ongoing development of the Group Safety Management System.

The role requires a relevant degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, at least 3 years of construction experience, and

Qualifications

• Relevant degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
• 3+ years construction experience.
• Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations and practices.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Maintain close working relationship with business teams to provide active assistance and advise for the Group Safety Management System.
• Participate in appointment of competent persons for key safety roles and ensure training needs are identified and provided.
• Ensure risk assessment processes and systems are established for production, approval, communication, implementation and monitoring.
• Monitor procedures for management of lifting operations, temporary works, inductions, fire and emergencies, permits and other safety procedures.
• Participate in setting up and maintaining safety committees.
• Ensure risks to third parties/other contractors are understood and actioned.
• Contribute ideas to the team for development of the Group-wide Safety Management System.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety matters and liaise with safety managers and trade associations.
• Ensure accident and incident investigations identify causes, actions to prevent recurrence and robust defence of claims.
• Provide reports on health & safety performance to relevant managers.
• Communicate effectively with people at all levels in the construction industry.
• Maintain relationships with directors and project teams.
• Promote group health and safety abilities to staff and customers.
