Job summary

Corlann – West Region offers permanent full-time positions for Care Assistants at Caislean Adult Services in Oranmore & Galway City. The role focuses on supporting adults and children with intellectual disabilities to live independently and engage in community life.

Salary is Department of Health scales (€34,881–€47,624 with incremental credits and a long service increment). 39-hour week; pensionable posts; panel may fill future vacancies.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have a good general education.
• A recognised qualification in the field of intellectual disability or a FETAC level 5 course is an advantage.
• A QQI Level 5 or higher is desirable.
• A full clean manual Driving Licence to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads is an essential requirement.
• It may also be necessary to obtain a Class D1 Driving Licence.
• Experience of working with people with an intellectual disability/autism/complex needs is desirable.
• Flexibility, team-working skills, patience and a sense of humour.
• Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement and proficiency in IT skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the person in daily living, promoting independence and development of skills.
• Assist with personal outcomes and participation in ordinary community life.
• Provide daytime personal care including meals, household tasks and intimate care.
• Report to Social Care Worker/Staff Nurse/Team Leader/Team Manager depending on location.
• Work pattern: 78 hours per fortnight; 14-day duty roster; may include weekends, evenings, sleep-ins.
