Job summary

The Irish College of GPs invites applications for a Communications Manager to lead and shape a modern, strategic communications function.

Working with senior leadership, you will develop a College-wide strategy, strengthen reputation, support advocacy and public engagement, and tell the story of general practice in Ireland. Hybrid working and a competitive salary are offered.

Qualifications

  • Third-level qualification in Communications or related discipline.
  • 7–10 years' experience in communications management or leading teams.
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and campaigns.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong experience with digital communications: websites, email, social media, CMS.
  • Ability to use analytics to improve engagement and performance.
  • Understanding of accessibility, SEO, GDPR and best practices.

Job Purpose

This experienced Communications Manager will lead the next stage in the evolution of our communications function.

This role is more than a traditional communications management role. It is an opportunity to shape, build and lead a modern, strategic communications function that supports one of Ireland's most influential healthcare organisations.

Working closely with senior leadership, the job holder will develop and implement a College-wide communications strategy, strengthen our reputation, support advocacy and public engagement, and help tell the story of general practice across Ireland.

The Job holder will be someone who enjoys building new capabilities, leading organisational change and creating communications that make a real impact.

Key result areas
  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy aligned to the College's strategic priorities.
  • Lead high-impact communications campaigns across multiple programmes and initiatives.
  • Develop compelling content, storytelling and messaging that strengthens the College's profile and reputation.
  • Oversee digital communications including the College website, email communications and social media channels.
  • Supporting executive communications, stakeholder engagement and advocacy initiatives.
  • Use analytics and insights to continually improve communications performance and audience engagement.
  • Build and mature a modern communications function, including governance, planning processes, workflows, standards and ways of working.
  • Lead, manage, mentor and develop a growing communications team.
Person specification
Essential Requirements
  • A third-level qualification in Communications, Communications Management, Communications Planning, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 7–10 years' experiencein communications management, strategic communications, corporate communications, public affairs, content management or a similar leadership role.
  • Demonstrate experience developing and implementing communications strategies and integrated communications campaigns.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
  • Strong experience managing digital communications, including websites, email marketing, social media and content management systems (such as WordPress).
  • Experience using communications analytics and performance data to inform decision-making and improve engagement.
  • An understanding of accessibility standards, SEO, GDPR and digital communications best practice.
  • Excellent project management, planning and organisational skills.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering confidently with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
Highly Desired Experience
  • Experience establishing, transforming or maturing a communications function—including governance, processes, planning frameworks and ways of working—would be a significant advantage.
