Join Vertiv and Power the Future of Critical Infrastructure
At Vertiv, we design, manufacture and service the technologies that keep the world's most critical applications running. As demand for data centres and critical power infrastructure continues to grow across EMEA, we are looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer (MV Switchgear) to join our deployment team.
This is a highly visible, customer-facing role where you will lead Medium Voltage (MV) commissioning activities across major critical infrastructure projects throughout EMEA. You will act as the technical authority for MV switchgear systems, delivering testing, commissioning, fault finding, and energisation activities while working closely with customers, project teams, and subcontractors.
If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working in dynamic project environments, and travelling internationally, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
- Perform pre-energisation (L2) and energised/live testing (L3) activities on MV switchgear systems.
- Execute commissioning and validation of MV equipment, protection relays, and control schemes.
- Support and lead testing activities through all commissioning phases (L2-L5).
- Conduct first energisation, startup, and system handover activities.
- Carry out relay protection testing, configuration verification, and logic integration.
- Perform fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and issue resolution during commissioning.
- Complete reconnection and modification works between cubicles and switchgear sections as required.
- Produce and maintain commissioning records, test reports, and technical documentation.
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and customer witness testing activities.
Technical Leadership
- Act as the onsite technical expert for MV systems and commissioning activities.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to Vertiv engineers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Support Commissioning Managers and Project Managers with technical updates, reporting, and risk mitigation.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback into engineering and R&D teams.
- Attend customer meetings and act as the technical authority during commissioning activities.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Deliver clear communication regarding technical issues, project progress, and commissioning milestones.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Follow all Vertiv methods of work, RAMS, and site safety procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture and exercise stop-work authority when required.
Travel
This role requires extensive travel across EMEA (approximately 80%) to support customer projects from installation through commissioning and final handover.
What We're Looking For
- Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Formal MV training and/or recognised competency certification for Medium Voltage equipment.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the electrical power industry.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in an MV commissioning, field service, testing, or customer-facing engineering role.
- Proven experience commissioning MV switchgear and power distribution systems.
- Experience with protection relays, protection schemes, and electrical testing procedures.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
- Ability to operate independently at customer sites and lead technical activities.
- Full driving licence.
- Strong Microsoft Office and reporting skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout EMEA.
- Experience within data centres, critical power, utilities, or industrial power infrastructure.
- Experience with switchgear manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Eaton, or similar.
- Knowledge of protection relay platforms and SCADA integration.
- Previous experience leading commissioning teams or contractors on site.
- High-voltage (HV) or additional electrical authorisations.
Why Join Vertiv?
- Work on some of the largest and most complex critical infrastructure projects across EMEA.
- Join a global leader in critical power and data centre technologies.
- International project exposure and career development opportunities.
- Collaborative and highly skilled engineering environment.
