Job summary

Standard Control Systems is seeking a Project Engineer to lead BEMS commissioning across Europe, with on-site testing of control strategies, graphics and sequences for critical buildings.

Based in Ireland with travel across the region, you will configure systems on Trend/Distech/Tridium platforms, generate accurate documentation, and support project managers through design review and handover processes.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years strong BEMS commissioning capability and methodical troubleshooting.
• Experience with HVAC plant operation and control sequences.

About the Role

This role involves being able to work in a safe, consistent & timely manner on BEMS commissioning across European projects. Knowledge of Building Automation Systems, including expertise in one or more of the following Trend, Distech, Tridium or other industry-standard platforms. The ability to implement and test control strategies and graphics on-site for various building systems is essential, ensuring Standard Control Systems’ standards and client requirements are met across Commercial, Retail, Pharmaceutical and Data Centre sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and compliance

• Follow company safety rules, RAMS, permits and client site procedures at all times.
• Participate in site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings as required.
• Apply Stop Work Authority when conditions are unsafe or unclear.
• Use safe isolation/LOTO processes where required; report hazards and near misses promptly.
• Complete pre-commissioning checks, point-to-point and I/O validation (sensors/actuators), check correct functionality of all electrical interlocks and functional testing.
• Commission control strategies including sequences, alarms, trends, schedules, setpoints and graphics.
• Support witnessed testing (SAT/IST where applicable) and ensure clear evidence capture.
• Work effectively in live/critical environments using change control, rollback planning and coordination with operations.

BEMS platforms and integration

• Configure and troubleshoot BMS platforms.
• Configure and diagnose BACnet/Modbus integrations (TCP/RTU), networks and comms performance issues.
• Optimise polling/network settings where required while maintaining reliability and client standards.

Quality, documentation and handover

• Produce accurate commissioning records, results sheets, issue lists and close-out packs in line with Company processes.
• Maintain clear change records and ensure backups are created and uploaded to the correct company repository (Teams/SharePoint) in line with internal IP and handover requirements.
• Ensure installations are left safe, tidy and professionally presented.

Collaboration and development

• Coordinate with design, panel build, installation, QA/QC and other trades to resolve issues.
• Support apprentices and junior engineers through mentoring and best-practice coaching.
• Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement of commissioning processes/templates.
• 3-5 years’ strong BEMS commissioning capability and methodical troubleshooting.
• Experience with HVAC plant operation and control sequences.
• Niagara N4/Tridium, Trend, Siemens, Allen Bradley and Modbus, BACnet experience preferred.
• High standard of safety leadership, documentation discipline and professional communication.
• Full driving licence and willingness to travel/work shutdown windows as required.

This role is responsible for the design and configuration of intelligent Building Management Systems (BMS), including control narratives, Control strategy software and front-end graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for end users.

The Project Engineer supports Project Managers in the delivery of BMS projects by assisting with design review coordination, technical submittals, project documentation, and general project administration. The role helps ensure deliverables are issued on time, trackers are maintained, and closeout documentation is completed to the required standard. This position is a development step towards Project Manager and provides exposure to planning, stakeholder coordination, and project governance under the direction of a PM.

This role involves delivering high-quality after-sales support and field service activities such as commissioning across a range of BMS and HVAC control systems throughout the Nordics. The successful candidate will be responsible for fault finding, diagnostics, reactive callouts, system optimisation, repairs, maintenance and technical support activities while ensuring minimal disruption to client operations.

This role involves delivering maintenance support and field service activities across a range of BMS and HVAC control systems with the majority of work in Dublin and the general Leinster region but will also include occasional travel throughout Ireland.
