Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for a Commercial Manager to join their team in Ireland. The role focuses on managing all commercial aspects of civil, mechanical and electrical projects, with regular liaison across stakeholders.

You will drive cost/value reconciliations, control variations and claims, manage risk with the Project Director, and support the commercial team to maximise margin.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering civils, mechanical and electrical or utilities projects.
  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor or working toward same.
  • Commercially astute with substantial experience in civil engineering/construction.
  • Experienced in contracts such as NEC, FIDIC and Public Works Contracts.
  • Understanding of programming techniques and project controls.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all commercial aspects of the Project and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Monthly Cost and Value Reconciliation reviews.
  • Manage contract changes including variations and claims.
  • Maintain the risk register with the Project Director and ensure mitigations.
  • Support the project commercial team on a daily basis.
  • Oversee procurement to ensure advantageous procurement.
  • Maximise cash position and manage WIP and cash flow.
  • Report weekly on contractor costs and cost performance.
  • Assist in managing the programme with the Director and Planning Manager.
  • Drive commercial performance improvements and risk avoidance.
  • Oversee project controls including value, cost, production and supply chain.

A day in the life of a Murphy Commercial Manager
  • Manage all commercial aspects of the Project and maintain regular liaison with all stakeholders.
  • Monthly Cost and Value Reconciliation reviews.
  • Manage project contractual change including variations, contractor’s claims and the early warning process.
  • In conjunction with the Project Director, manage the project risk register and ensure mitigation measures are reviewed and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Manage and support the project commercial team on a daily basis.
  • Oversee project procurement, ensuring commercial advantageous procurement for the business.
  • Maximising of cash position, including WIP control, cash flow production & improvement plans.
  • Manage contractor’s cost on a weekly basis, ensuring full understanding of all costs each week. Relaying cost performance information to the construction team to ensure project continually improves the estimated final margin.
  • Along with the Project Director and Planning Manager, assist in management of the programme.
  • Continually seek to improve the project performance commercially, including margin betterment, change control capture and avoidance of risks.
  • Manage project controls including value, cost, production and supply chain.

  • Familiar with delivering civils engineering, mechanical and electrical or utilities projects.
  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor or working toward same.
  • Commercially astute with substantial experience within a commercial role in the civil engineering / construction industry.
  • Experienced in the use of contracts such as NEC, FIDIC and Public Works Contracts.
  • Understanding of programming techniques and project controls.
