Key Responsibilities
- All eligible candidates must be qualified 5 years and have 4 years full time (or an aggregate) work experience in the field of hand therapy
- This post holder will provide service across the Hands service which includes Plastics and Orthopaedic hand Trauma at both an outpatient and inpatient basis and ED hands.
- The successful candidate will possess skills and expertise in the area greater than that expected of a senior grade. This will include research and service development work within designated area
- The post holder will work alongside two senior Occupational Therapists and a staff grade Occupational Therapist ensuring a seamless, comprehensive, evidence-based service is provided.
- The development and maintenance of high standard of clinical practice within this area through clinical evaluation, completing audit and evidence-based practice
- The post holder will provide comprehensive Occupational Therapy evidence-based protocol / guideline led assessment and intervention programmes specifically for in patients and out patients’ attending plastics / hands service, Orthopaedic out patients with upper limb injuries, patients in ED presenting with upper limb injuries .
- The successful post holder will be expected to have advanced splinting skills
- In addition to their work within the OT hands service, much of this role requires effective, timely communication with other OT’s in the service, and Medical, Physiotherapy and Nursing colleagues.
- The post holder will be expected to maintain and further develop the quality and standard of OT service provided and will advise the Manager of service development or issues that may arise.
- The post holder must be organised and show ability to work effectively in a hand therapy model of care.
- The post holder will be required to provide ongoing education. This will include presentations (as required) at MDT meetings, education with their NCHD colleagues as they rotate into this area and of Occupational Therapist colleagues. As Clinical Specialist it will also be expected that this OT provides education at a national and international level also.
- As per department Annual Leave and Cross cover policy there will be an expectation that cross cover at times may be required
- The post holder will be required to provide high level and comprehensive records and reports on Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions in the health care record
- The post holder will be expected to identify and highlight any risks and incidents to the OT manager immediately.
- To supervise Senior Occupational Therapists Staff Grade Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants as required by O.T Manager.
- To carry out all duties in compliance with all relevant legislation.
- To complete submissions or developments as necessary for area and/or as required by the O.T Manager.
- To act in a manner as outlined by CORU Code of Practice and AOTI Clinical Specialist competencies and as a role model to junior staff and students
- The post holder will provide clinical skills and expertise as necessary and consult with other OT’s as necessary.
- To demonstrate excellent interpersonal and time management skills
