Provide effective leadership and management in maintaining and developing high-quality nursing care, ensuring consistently high standards across all wards and nursing departments.
Support and direct nursing services, promoting compliance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, regulatory standards and legislative requirements while encouraging staff engagement and professional development.
Provide clinical expertise in the management of acutely ill or deteriorating patients, attend clinical emergencies, support ward staff and ensure appropriate escalation, communication and follow-up of clinical issues.
Monitor patient activity, service delivery and patient flow, working with the ADON/Director of Nursing to establish and review KPIs, analyse relevant data and develop reports to support effective decision-making.
Promote evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement by collaborating with the Nurse Practice Development Unit, supporting staff learning, implementing quality improvement plans and contributing to internal and external quality assurance programmes.
Lead and support change initiatives, complaint management and service development, including reviewing systems and processes, addressing issues affecting clinical standards, and contributing to the annual nursing department services plan with a focus on Out-of-Hours requirements.
Ensure safe and effective delivery of expanded nursing roles and Out-of-Hours services, while leading and participating in relevant committees and quality programmes, including Quality, JCI, JAG and HIQA, as required.
