Role Purpose

As a Civil Engineer Intern, you will support multidisciplinary teams delivering water and wastewater projects in office and site environments while building practical skills across project delivery, quality, safety and sustainability.

This is a formal internship opportunity undertaken as part of relevant Civil Engineering degree course or related studies. The two-year Civil Engineering Graduate Programme combines live project experience with structured mentoring, training, one 12-month rotation and two six-month rotations. A six-month rotation may be available in Portugal or the UK, subject to business requirements and suitability, and graduates receive support towards future professional accreditation.

Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery and Site Engineering
  • Work as part of a project team and contribute to the delivery of live water and wastewater projects in a collaborative one-team culture.
  • Support project activities from design and planning through construction, completion and handover, including inspections, progress monitoring and project records.
  • Develop foundational setting-out skills under supervision and gain practical experience using laser levels and dumpy levels.
  • Learn to interpret civil, reinforcement and construction drawings with guidance from senior engineers.
Quality Safety and Sustainability
  • Promote and follow Glanua's health, safety, environmental, quality and sustainability standards, policies and procedures.
  • Support site inductions, statutory inspections, record keeping and the collection of project and safety data.
  • Learn and practise basic concrete quality-control activities, including slump testing, cube sampling, curing and accurate recording of results.
  • Assist with quality checks and maintain clear records of site activities and outcomes.
Learning Collaboration and Development
  • Build familiarity with BIM, Revit and drafting tools and develop an understanding of how digital information supports project delivery.
  • Learn about water and wastewater treatment processes, including potential exposure to modular package treatment plant fabrication.
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues and contribute positively to multidisciplinary project and site teams.
  • Take part in mentoring, continuous learning and feedback.
