Job summary

Glanua Limited is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join our expanding on-site team in Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare. You will work on one or more water and wastewater projects, ensuring delivery within programmes, budgets and safety standards.

The role requires a degree in Civil Engineering, at least 2 years of relevant experience, and strong communication skills. You’ll use GPS, total station and CAD, liaise with consultants and subcontractors, and contribute to CPD as part of a

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar civil engineering role, preferably water and wastewater.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in project delivery and engage with suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adapt to issues during project delivery.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; use of GPS, total station and CAD.
  • Strong communication skills with motivation to succeed.
  • Full driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team delivering one or more projects with a ‘one team’ ethos.
  • Ensure HSQE standards, policies and procedures are followed on-site.
  • Be familiar with HSQE management systems and current statutory requirements.
  • Cover for the project manager when needed and manage day-to-day site operations.
  • Be aware of project programmes and budgets and understand overruns impact.
  • Review and develop specifications and design drawings; solve design issues.
  • Use GPS, total station and 3D scanner for setting out and As-Built data.
  • Prepare technical reports, safety files and monthly progress reports.
  • Ensure materials and workmanship meet specified requirements.
  • Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, site staff and commercial resources.
  • Attend weekly site meetings and plan safe delivery of works.
  • Interact with employer’s representatives and stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of latest standards through CPD and mentor juniors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the Civil Project Engineer are outlined as follows:

  • Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
  • Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to on-site.
  • Be familiar with the HSQE management system and procedures in conjunction with the current statutory requirements
  • Be available and willing to provide coverage should the project manager be absent for any reason, assuming the role of managing the day-to-day operation of the site
  • Need to be familiar with programme and budgets for the project, fully understanding the impact any overruns shall have on the project
  • Review and develop specifications and design drawings, have the ability to develop solutions to design based issues.
  • Use of GPS, total station and 3D scanner for setting out and collection of As Built information
  • Completion of technical reports and quality documentation, input to safety files and O&M and completion of monthly progress reports
  • Ensuring design, materials and workmanship is in line with the specified requirements
  • Utilising procurement software to ensure materials and subcontracts are ordered/ awarded as and when required
  • Liaise with relevant consultants, subcontractors, site staff, commercial resources and the general site team involved in the project
  • Completion of weekly whiteboard meetings on site, planning the efficient and safe delivery of works
  • Day to day interaction with the employer’s representatives, stakeholders and members of the public
  • Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Show an eagerness to learn and progress in your own career as well as the mentoring and training of more junior staff. Glanua has a proven track record of developing graduates from college through to director level within the organisation

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Civil Project Engineer are outlined as follows:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a similar role, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to work as part of a team in project delivery and provide input at team meetings and engage with suppliers and sub-contractors at procurement stage and in the delivery of their scope of supply during contract delivery.
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise during project delivery.
  • Good working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the use of GPS, total station and CAD.
  • Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
  • Full driving licence.
