Job summary

Glanua is seeking an Electrical Engineer (Design and Install) for Leinster. You will design and install electrical systems for water and wastewater plants, work with multidisciplinary teams, and oversee from design through handover.

You will ensure safety, sustainability, and quality standards, manage procurement packages (LV/MV), and support on-site installation, testing and commissioning while collaborating with commissioning teams.

Qualifications

  • Level 7/8 Electrical Engineering degree is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience, preferably in water & wastewater.
  • Good interpersonal, planning and presentation skills, with teamwork ability.
  • Full clean driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical installations for greenfield design and brownfield refurbishment.
  • Collaborate with Process, Mechanical, Control & Automation, Civil and Structural teams.
  • Procure LV/MV packages and manage third‑party design consultants.
  • Ensure safety, sustainability, quality and compliance in designs.
  • Oversee site handover and assist commissioning and operation teams.
  • On-site duties include procurement, supervision, commissioning, and handover.

Electrical Engineer (Design and Install): Leinster

The Role:

In this role you will be reporting to the Electrical Department Manager and will be responsible for all elements of the electrical installation required for, greenfield design and build, or brownfield refurbishment of water and wastewater treatment plants and associated equipment.Post design and installation you will be responsible for the efficient and effective handover, of the installation, to the commissioning and construction delivery teams and assist as required during the commissioning and operation stage.Due the continuous expansion of Glanua you may also be required to work on designs for other related industries.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer are outlined as follows:

  • Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability & Quality standards, policies and procedures are developed into all designs and design outputs.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines in Process, Mechanical, Control & Automation, Civil and Structural to ensure an optimum design solution is reached.
  • Reporting to the Electrical Department Manager, design works include the compilation and review of
  • Site surveys and condition reports as required.
  • M&I Listings.
  • Electrical load balances, MIC load calculations.
  • Generator design and sizing for back-up applications.
  • Lighting and emergency lighting designs.
  • Earthing and Lightning protection designs
  • Review I/O of listings.
  • Review of control panel drawings schematics.
  • Review of specialist reports on harmonics and selection of equipment to mitigate the harmonics.
  • Solar PV generation and battery storage and renewable generators for small applications.
  • Undertake site surveys and preliminary condition reports on existing infrastructure/assets.
  • Procurement of packages for LV works such as Main Distribution Boards, MCC’s and control panels, automation hardware/software, starters, electrical installation works, earthing and lightning protection.
  • Procurement packages for MV works such as distribution transformers, MV switchgear and specialist design services for MV works.
  • Procure and manage 3rd party design consultants as required.
  • For all procurement packages, provide a technical and commercial review of tender returns, ensuring tender returns align to the required standards and demonstrate value for money. Provide a recommendation to procurement.
  • With the tendering team, team assist in the preparation and pricing of tender submissions for electrical works.
  • Promote and advocate key themes from Glanua Business Strategy including a move to off-site manufacturing, improved digitalised ways of working and drive towards sustainability.
  • Encourage use of innovative technology and ways of working within the team.
  • Harness opportunities and mitigate risk through effective design and risk mitigation measures during the lifecycle of the design process.
  • Ensure you are aware of local Asset Standards, Electrical Standards, WIMES, etc and embed requirements of same into respective designs.
  • Keep appraised of the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).

When onsite during the installation phase the main duties and responsibilities will also include:

  • Ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to on-site.
  • Work on assigned projects to manage the delivery of the electrical and installation scope including procurement, installation supervision, commissioning and handover. You may be required to work on more than one project at a time depending on the size and complexity of the projects.
  • Liaise with the relevant employer’s representatives, consultants, subcontractors, site staff, commercial resources and the general site team involved in the project.
  • Management of site personnel and subcontractors ensuring that work is conducted in line with design documentation and in accordance with contract programme.
  • Ensuring design, materials and workmanship is in line with the specified requirements.
  • Ensure project is delivered in-line with quality procedures and that all Factory Acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), inspection and test records (ITRs), insulation resistance checks, I/O point-to-point checks, rotation checks and commissioning of the works are completed in-line with the quality plan and Employer’s Requirements.
  • Completion of quality checks to ensure works are in line with design outputs and ready for commissioning works.
  • Co-ordination of project close-out stages including handover to the end user. Preparation and submission of project handover files including as-built drawings and control panel drawings schematics post-commissioning incorporating any changes made during the installation phase.
  • Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a "one team" culture.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Electrical Engineer are outlined as follows:

  • Level 7/8 Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience, preferably in the Water & Wastewater sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent planning, organisational, training, teamwork, problem resolution and presentation skills
  • Excellent literacy, numeric and IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk packages
  • Working knowledge of PLC’s (programming not required) and Variable Speed Drives / motor starters, valve actuators and instrumentation in general.
  • Working knowledge of Trimble ProDesign (Amtech)or ETAP calculation software would be an advantage.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical environment and or food grade manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
  • Full Clean driving licence.
