Job summary

The VP R&D, Rare Disease at AstraZeneca Ireland-based role reports to the Alexion CEO. You will shape Rare Disease R&D strategy, maximize portfolio value and provide expert guidance on pipeline and investments.

With MD and/or PhD and proven drug discovery and development leadership, you will drive governance, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration with GMA, Legal, and Market Access to create value in the Rare Disease portfolio.

Qualifications

• MD/PhD or equivalent in regulated biotech/pharma required.
• Track record in drug discovery and development in relevant disease areas.
• Experience managing teams and cross-functional budgets and activities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Rare Disease TA strategy with global oversight.
• Provide strategic, scientific, and regulatory guidance to support programs.
• Prioritize new IP development and assess opportunities for portfolio growth.
• Lead governance and collaboration across Legal, R&D, Commercial and Digital functions.
