Job description

Overall Purpose of the Job

Based at a medical device plant in Clonmel, the Catering Assistant will accurately and efficiently oversee the preparation of meals, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products. They will also prepare and portion food products prior to cooking and assist where necessary. Additionally, they will perform duties related to food and final plate preparation, including serving and garnishing cooked items, and preparing appropriate items for hot and cold menu plates.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Report for duty on time according to the weekly rota.
  2. Acquire full knowledge of all food and beverage policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with kitchen hygiene standards and HACCP regulations.
  3. Store crockery and cooking utensils on clean shelves and in clean cupboards/drawers.
  4. Maintain cleanliness of all storage areas.
  5. Take reasonable care for health and safety of oneself and others in the kitchen.
  6. Maintain good stock control in the cleaning store and record weekly stocktaking.
  7. Ensure all food and products are prepared and served according to the canteen’s recipes, portioning, and serving standards.
  8. Ensure compliance with HACCP regulations.
  9. Check and maintain proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in a similar cooking environment is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen staff, and customers.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift frequently within the kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods.
