Job summary

Ann's Care Homes in Ireland is seeking a kitchen assistant to help prepare nutritious meals for service users and ensure proper food handling and hygiene. You will support serving meals, tidying dining areas, and assisting with delivery and rotation of stock under the supervision of the Chef.

You will need basic numeracy, literacy, and COSHH awareness, with a willingness to pursue an NVQ2 in Catering; prior care-setting catering is a bonus. Immediate interviews offered and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Basic numeracy and literacy are required.
• Willingness to work towards an NVQ2 in Catering.
• Basic knowledge of catering and food hygiene regulations.
• Familiarity with operation of kitchen equipment.
• COSHH/Health and Safety knowledge.
• Experience in catering; care setting preferable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of nutritious, well balanced meals in accordance with needs of service users.
• Handle and store food in accordance with Food Hygiene regulations.
• Serve meals and drinks to service users (dependent on service).
• Talk with service users to ensure food is prepared well and enjoyed.
• Use cleaning materials in accordance with COSHH regulations and blend food as required.
• Prepare meal trays, lay tables, collect trays and clear tables after meals.
• Load up trolleys for meal times and transport to dining rooms.
• Clean surfaces, equipment, fridges, ovens, and floors; store items correctly.
• Ensure store rooms are clean and well organised; wash crockery and cutlery or load dishwasher.
• Check fridge/freezer temperatures daily; order food and kitchen equipment.
• Take delivery of food and ensure use before expiry date.
• Refill cereal, sugar containers, etc.
• Maintain cleaning rotas and adhere to them.
• Take residents to dining rooms as required; Hoover as needed.
• Assist Chef with any other duty to keep kitchen running smoothly.
