About the role

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a committed and capable Assistant Chef to support the Head Chef in the delivery of high-quality meals in a caring, residential environment. This role is ideal for someone with strong culinary skills, a team-oriented approach, and a passion for preparing nutritious food for older adults.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in the preparation and cooking of meals in line with residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and medical requirements.
• Take charge of the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef, ensuring continuity of standards and meal service.
• Contribute to menu planning with a focus on variety, nutrition, and presentation.
• Support in stock control, ordering, and management of kitchen supplies.
• Ensure all food is prepared and stored safely in accordance with HACCP and food safety guidelines.
• Work collaboratively with care and nursing staff to address individual dietary needs and feedback.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Assist in supervising kitchen assistants or junior staff where required

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Assistant Chef or strong background as a Cook or Kitchen Assistant in a healthcare or residential setting.
• Familiarity with HACCP and food hygiene standards essential.
