Overall Purpose of Job

Located in South Dublin, Beacon Hospital is one of the most advanced private hospitals in Europe, with over 1700 Consultants, nurses and healthcare professionals. Beacon Hospital provides 24 hour, world-class acute care services including orthopaedics, physiotherapy, cardiology, women's health, urology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, plastic & reconstructive surgery, ENT, neurology, general surgery, comprehensive cancer care and emergency medicine.

The Mission of Beacon Hospital is to provide quality patient care in an environment that is safe, respectful, compassionate and caring. In providing this care, the successful candidate will adhere to current health and safety regulations and act under the supervision of the Consultant Cardiologists and support them in the provision of all aspects of Cardiology Services and Care to inpatients in Beacon Hospital, and to any other patients in the hospital who requires acute medical intervention that can be provided by a Cardiology Registrar.

The department of Cardiology at The Beacon is rapidly expanding, now with 3 cardiac catheterization laboratories with well over 100 procedures weekly. There is a vast array of research ongoing in the department including with private companies in the wearables market.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

To act under the supervision of a Consultant Cardiologist

Assist in cardiology procedures in the Cardiac Catheterisation Lab under the supervision of the Consultant Cardiologist.

Supervise pre and post procedure care for patients in the Cardiac Day Ward.

Supervise the Cardiology SHO's when reviewing and evaluating cardiac patients presenting to the Accident and Emergency and admit those who need admission.

Attend rounds with the Consultant.

Supervise the Cardiology SHO's in their ward duties and inform the consultant of any issues or problems

To review and follow the in-patients on the cardiac ward and inform the consultant of any issues or problems.

To perform cardiology procedures or tests when deemed appropriate by the Consultant Cardiologist.

Support other departments' Consultants when cardiology opinion or review is requested and inform the On - Call Cardiologist of any issues or problems.

To take clinical responsibility for junior NCHDs such as SHOs and Interns.

Participate in audits and research

To assist in the education of colleagues, undergraduate medical students and staff by participating in tutorials and teaching sessions.

To engage in technological developments as they apply to the patient and service administration

To protect and enhance the reputation of the Beacon Hospital. To implement quality standards ensuring the provision of quality service.

To comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment.

To participate in Hospital Quality Improvement and Risk Management Initiatives.

To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

MRCPI/MRCP or equivalent

Irish Medical Council Registration Certificate.

Experience

Experience working at Registrar level in an acute hospital setting, preferably as a Cardiology Registrar

Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge

Proven ability to work as an effective team member.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Valid ACLS certification

All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service.Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
