Myn is working a leading private healthcare provider in Galway, offering [outpatient cardiology / diagnostics / cardiac catheterisation / rehabilitation services] to a growing patient base across Ireland. The clinic is investing in its cardiology service line and is seeking an experienced Consultant Cardiologist to join a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred cardiac care outside the public HSE system.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will provide expert cardiology assessment, diagnosis, and management for a private patient caseload, working closely with referring GPs, allied specialists, and the clinic's wider clinical governance structure. This is an opportunity to build or expand a private cardiology practice within a well-resourced, modern clinical setting, with flexibility around session commitment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide outpatient consultations for new and follow-up cardiology patients, including diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, valvular disease, and hypertension.
- Order, perform, and/or interpret diagnostic investigations including ECG, echocardiography, exercise stress testing, and ambulatory monitoring (as relevant to sub-specialty).
- Where applicable, undertake invasive procedures such as coronary angiography or device implantation, in line with clinic facilities and credentialing.
- Develop individualised treatment and management plans in collaboration with patients, GPs, and other referring clinicians.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and correspondence with referring practitioners.
- Participate in the clinic's clinical governance framework, including audit, peer review, and continuous quality improvement.
- Support the development of the cardiology service, including potential input on equipment, protocols, and service expansion.
- Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) in line with Irish Medical Council and relevant specialist body requirements.
Essential Qualifications & Registration
- Primary medical qualification (MB BCh BAO or equivalent) recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
- Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) in Cardiology, or equivalent specialist qualification recognised for entry to the Irish Medical Council Specialist Division.
- Current (or eligible for) registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council register, Cardiology specialty.
- Membership of, or eligibility for, the Irish Cardiac Society and/or relevant European/international cardiology bodies (e.g., European Society of Cardiology).
- Evidence of up-to-date CPD and appraisal, in line with Medical Council requirements.
- Current medical indemnity cover appropriate to private practice in Ireland
Desirable Criteria
- Sub-specialty interest or accreditation in [interventional cardiology / electrophysiology / heart failure / cardiac imaging] - tailor to clinic's service needs.
- Prior experience in private practice or independent healthcare settings in Ireland or the UK.
- Established referral network among Irish GPs and allied specialists.
- Experience with private health insurer billing processes (VHI, Laya, Irish Life Health).
