Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic is seeking a genetic counsellor to contribute to a high-quality genetic counselling service in Lucan, Co. Dublin.

The role focuses on supporting families at risk of inherited diseases, explaining genetic tests and risks, and coordinating with oncology and other teams. The successful candidate will have an MSc in genetic counselling or equivalent clinical genetics experience, with 2+ years in genetics and strong communication skills to support patients and

Qualifications

• MSc in genetic counselling or equivalent clinical genetics experience.
• Minimum of two years professional clinical experience in genetics.
• Alternative: relevant first degree (e.g. Nursing or midwifery) with evidence of current professional registration and at least two years in genetics.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive genetic counselling to families at risk of inherited diseases.
• Explain heredity, diagnoses, recurrence risks, and testing options.
• Collaborate with Oncology Team on treatment plans and patient care.
• Order genetic tests as clinically appropriate per guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate results to patients and clinicians.
• Support patients and families, including psychological aspects and referrals.
