The main purpose of the Business Intelligence (BI) Manager role is to ensure that organisation decision makers have accurate, timely and actionable information. The BI Manager ensures that the BI teams are turning operational data into useful insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of BI analysts and developers.
  • Oversee the design and maintenance of data warehousing systems across both sites.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on BI tools and solutions.
  • Manage and lead out on BI projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across both sites.
  • Support ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests.
  • Work with CDO and BI Teams to develop and implement business intelligence strategies and solutions.
  • Collaborate with various departments to identify key business metrics.
  • Create and manage dashboards and reports to support decision-making.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all BI solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for BI processes and systems.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure proper integration of BI systems.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of BI solutions.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management.
  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends and insights.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
  • Act as an SME in the handover of maintenance of master data management to the business teams.
  • Act as an SME to support the testing and migration to new applications
  • Lead the adoption of AI and generative AI capability within BI, including the AI and copilot features embedded in the organisation's BI and data platforms (for example Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Copilot and Azure OpenAI).
  • Identify, scope and prioritise practical AI use cases across reporting, forecasting and operational analytics, and build the business case for each with the CDO.
  • Evaluate and pilot agentic AI use cases - for example conversational analytics, natural-language querying of the data warehouse, automated report narration and routine data-quality triage - and progress successful pilots to production.
  • Apply large language models to accelerate BI delivery, including code and SQL generation, semantic-model documentation, test-case creation and data-quality checks.
  • Build AI capability within the BI team through training, standards and reusable prompt and pattern libraries, and act as the organisation's point of reference on responsible AI use in analytics.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Third-level qualification in Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a business intelligence, data analytics or data warehousing role.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience leading or supervising a technical team.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SQL and in the design and maintenance of data warehouse structures.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern BI and reporting platform (for example Power BI, Tableau or Qlik).
  • Proven track record of delivering BI projects from requirements gathering through to deployment and user adoption.
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical specifications and reporting solutions.
  • Practical, hands-on experience applying AI or generative AI tooling in an analytics or BI context - for example AI-assisted development, copilot features in a BI platform, or natural-language query interfaces.
  • Working understanding of large language models: what they can and cannot do reliably, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, context limitations, hallucination risk and the need for output validation.
  • Awareness of the governance, privacy and ethical considerations of deploying AI on sensitive data, and of how to design controls that keep a human in the loop.
  • Experience in a healthcare, hospital or other regulated clinical environment.
  • Working knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems and of patient billing or claims processes.
  • Experience of data migration or system implementation projects.
  • Familiarity with data protection obligations under GDPR and with data governance frameworks.
  • Post-graduate qualification or professional certification in data, analytics or project management.
  • Experience delivering an agentic or conversational analytics use case - for example an AI assistant over a semantic model, an automated insight or narration service, or an AI-supported data-quality process.
  • Familiarity with the AI services in a major cloud platform (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI) and with orchestration or agent frameworks.
  • Understanding of the EU AI Act and of emerging regulatory expectations for AI in healthcare settings.
  • Certification in AI, machine learning or data science.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical thinking, with the ability to interrogate data and explain what it means to a non-technical audience.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including presenting findings to senior management and clinical leadership.
  • People-management skills, with the ability to set priorities, develop team members and manage performance.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a firm commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent projects and competing deadlines across two hospital sites.
  • Collaborative approach, with a track record of building effective working relationships across clinical, financial and IT functions.
  • Discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential patient and commercial information.
  • Genuine curiosity about AI, with a habit of testing new tooling and forming an evidence-based view of where it adds value and where it does not.
  • Sound judgement in applying AI: able to distinguish a use case that is genuinely improved by AI from one that is better served by a conventional report or data model.
  • Ability to explain AI capability, limitations and risk in plain language to clinical, financial and executive audiences.

Key Working Relationships

  • Chief Data Officer and the wider BI team across both sites.
  • Finance, including pricing, contracts and billing functions.
  • IT management and EHR support teams.
  • Clinical directors, consultants and departmental managers.
  • Senior management and the executive teams of Blackrock Health
  • External software vendors and implementation partners.
