Job summary

The Digital Healthcare (DHC) business unit is seeking an experienced Product Engineer to support the development of a novel biosensor platform. This cutting-edge system integrates electrochemical and optical sensors, microfluidics, electronics, algorithms, and software to deliver highly accurate biomarker measurements for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role that requires full-time onsite presence and offers the opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary product development team on next-generation healthcare technologies.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day operation and performance of biosensor measurement systems, ensuring reliable and consistent operation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory equipment, test methods, and characterization workflows.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to address technical challenges and support product development activities.
  • Perform planned and unplanned maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of laboratory tools and equipment.
  • Conduct root-cause investigations and fault-finding to component level.
  • Support the ongoing development, optimization, and enhancement of test systems and characterization tools.
  • Lead and contribute to improvement projects, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Present technical findings, lessons learned, and recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Work from technical drawings, schematics, specifications, manuals, and engineering documentation to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), test methods, and maintenance protocols.
  • Communicate technical issues, solutions, and progress clearly through written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision while adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
Essential
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (NFQ Level 7 or Level 8) in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Alternatively, a Level 6 technical qualification with relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a product engineering, test engineering, laboratory, or related technical role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Positive, proactive approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Hands-on experience operating laboratory equipment and test instrumentation.
Desirable Skills & Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

  • LabVIEW-based test and automation systems.
  • SolidWorks CAD design.
  • Development of benchtop characterization and measurement setups.
  • Sensor characterization, calibration, and performance analysis.
  • Electrochemical and/or optical sensing technologies.
  • Fluidics or microfluidics design, testing, and characterization.
  • Medical device, diagnostics, or regulated product development environments.
