Job summary

South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital in Cork, Ireland is seeking a Phlebotomist. You will perform blood collection duties, prepare phlebotomy trays, and maintain a clean, organised blood-taking area in line with infection control policies.

Responsibilities include drawing blood using vacutainer systems, correctly labeling tubes, dispatching samples to off-site labs, assisting patients and guardians, and adhering to ethical information handling.

Responsibilities

• Perform the appropriate duties of the role of Phlebotomist.
• Prepare Phlebotomy trays and trolleys.
• To keep blood taking area and work surfaces clean and tidy as per Infection Control and Safety, Health & Welfare policies.
• Ensure work station is fully restocked and cleaned at the end of each work period.
• To draw blood as requisitioned using vacutainer system.
• Ensure that correct amounts of blood are drawn, tubes labelled correctly and that bloods and forms correspond.
• Sort and dispatch bloods to other off-site areas i.e. Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital and Biomnis
• To facilitate and answer queries regarding blood bottles etc.
• To ensure that all patients are dealt with in a dignified and professional manner.
• To ensure that patients, in the case of a minor, their parent(s) or legal guardian understand the procedures.
• To ensure that you are aware of the ethical matters involved in the disclosure of information about patients.
