Role

Title: Deli Bakery Assistant - Macs Place Deli

Experience: Minimum 1 year working in a deli/bakery environment

Objective

To assist the Baker and Chef of a busy delicatessen.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the bakery and the fresh food offering on site.
  • Involved in the preparation, cooking, and display of all bakery items, under the direction of the baker
  • Able to prepare and bake simple bakery products, familiar with commercial kitchens, has the appetite to learn new methods, and take direction from the baker
  • Assisting with the ordering of supplies, equipment, and crockery
  • Meet hygiene, quality, and safety requirements and maintain the working area
  • Assist in the control of the quality consistency of the pastry produced
  • Preparation of pastry recipes
  • Assisting in the testing and tasting of recipes
  • Measurement and mixing of ingredients
  • Assisting in the development of new recipes
  • Keeping the kitchen organised and clean
  • Assisting in artistically creating showpieces or centerpieces
  • Assisting in the experimentation with new flavours
  • Assigning priorities to customer orders
  • The role will also involve serving hot and cold food on the go and creating complimentary teas & coffees.

Fast-paced, “non-stop” environment. At times physically demanding due to business needs, including the level of demand, staff quality, and staffing levels. Teamwork is essential to ensure smooth operations in all areas, with clear and continuous communication.
